PERFORMING AT WISE HALL IN VANCOUVER TOMORROW

TORONTO, ON – December 10, 2021 – Sharing a message of love through creative narratives of intentional songwriting, intelligent melody and hypnotic production, rising, Vancouver, BC / London, UK singer-songwriter, Mauvey, launches his new mixtape, The Florist, via 604 Records today. The release also marks Mauvey's directorial debut of The Florist - a short film of the same title accompanying the mixtape - comprised of cinematic videos for standout tracks. Listen to The Florist here and watch The Florist here, and a trailer for the visuals here.

Mauvey says of The Florist: “I wanted to deliver something human with this mixtape. Love, at the end of the day, is real and unpredictable. My debut mixtape is a declaration of unpredictable, desperate love and self love. There’s some happy, there’s some sad, there’s some sad that sounds happy and there’s some happy that sounds sad. It’s human, it’s love, it’s real.”

“The Florist is my directorial debut, and to do it with a team as talented and as accomplished as Amazing Factory is something special,” Mauvey says of the process behind the short film. “It has been surreal to go from an idea in my head to treatments sent over email to the first day on set. I honestly couldn't be more excited for the world to see the story unfold. To know that it all connects, all the way to the album is what is magic. My favourite part is knowing the whole story, knowing how it all ends, having my time with that before everyone else knows.”

You can hear the music in-person tomorrow - Saturday, December 11 - as Mauvey will perform at the RANGE Magazine Christmas party at Wise Hall. Mauvey currently graces the cover of RANGE Magazine's December 2021 issue - read on here. In addition, Exclaim! named Mauvey as one of the 8 Emerging Canadian Artists You Need To Hear in December 2021.

As Mauvey has been releasing The Florist as a series of double singles, the final two tracks of the mixtape - HISSYFITand Zoo - are available for a listen today. Last month, Mauvey shares the final instalment of the mixtape with two singles, Too Rush and CentrefoldWhile Too Rush blends R&B-laden production and Mauvey's smooth vocals atop inflections of UK garage and grime cadence, Centrefold is backed by gritty production and shameless lyrics proclaiming adoration for another. Listen to the tracks hereToo Rush arrived with a video that reflects the support one shares for their loved ones and community around them. Watch it here. The songs follow Irrational, a statement that lives up to its title, embracing its newfound definition as a reflection of Mauvey's intention and overall energy within The Florist. The song, released as a double single, alongside Insecure, a track about vulnerability and releasing expectations to be perfect. Watch the video for Irrational here

The Florist was entirely written and produced by Mauvey and recorded across studios in the UK, with the short film directed and produced by Mauvey alongside Amazing Factory, and filmed across the stunning landscape of British Columbia. The collection of songs launched with 9, the first instalment of the multi-part film series that follows five characters connected by interesting and serendipitous circumstances. Mauvey unveiled an engaging video series leading up to the single release of 9 called 9 Days of Flowers, where he delivers flowers to fans, community members, and friends to share acts of compassion, care and kindness – watch these videos here.

Sunday Afternoon is a song about being so obsessed with someone that only the biggest night out of all time will get your mind off them. It arrived alongside I GET IT, what Mauvey quips as the 'post hangover chat' with your friends, reflecting on the biggest night out of all time.

"Next year, my debut album is coming. I hope people hear the Florist and get excited for an album with no rules, no fixed genre and one strong theme: a true introduction to who I am as an artist and a Black man," Mauvey says.

About Mauvey:
Born in Ghana, West Africa, and raised between the U.K. and Vancouver, Canada, artist and songwriter, Mauvey, filters his unique batch of alternative pop music with hip hop, R&B/soul always alongside his message: Love. “My message will always be Love” says Mauvey, who has designed his projects to distribute Love through the creative narratives of intentional songwriting, intelligent melody, and hypnotic beat.

Mauvey has been influenced by artists like Michael Jackson, Kanye West, Oumou Sangaré, Prince, Childish Gambino, Labrinth, NAO, The Weeknd, and Andre 3000, as he goes on to state: "I am inspired by artists who made contributions so significant that they or their music will never be forgotten."

A passionate Mauvey says, "If my entire music career is a giant book about the rigours of Love, the ups, the downs, the highs and the complicated lows, I'd have done my job of distributing Love", he goes on to say, "I want to be clear about what I'm talking, singing and rapping about - no games - I don't know everything, but I know that Love is everything, there's no better subject.”

In Summer 2020, Mauvey was awarded by the MOBO Help Musicians Fund. Mauvey has also been well supported by Huw Stephens’ BBC Music Introducing on Radio 1, including being Mercury Prize nominee Georgia’s ‘pick’. As well, Mauvey has gained backing from Jamz Supernova on Selector Radio (British Arts Council), after partnering up with W SongsWarner Music UK’s publishing subsidiary.

Notion Magazine says, “The singer-rapper-songwriter is a breath of fresh air with his unforgettable authenticity projected in his music.”

Mauvey's powerful lyrical content is unashamed, he isn't perfect, and he's not trying to be. Love is his mission, not just words in songs. The themes are not always black and white, at times, they’re a bit Mauvey.
