LONG RANGE HUSTLE RELEASES AN HOMAGE TO 1970s DISCO IN LATEST MUSIC VIDEO

Toronto, ON – June 10, 2021 – Five-piece indie rock Toronto outfit, Long Range Hustle, releases a delightfully cheesy and colourful video for their latest single, Wait Up For Me, a track of striking piano, ringing guitars, and steady drums intertwined with belting vocals and walls of harmonies. The group found themselves down a YouTube rabbit hole and immersed in a world of Abba and the Bee Gees, resulting in the transportive and 70s visually inspired video.

“There is something really endearing about the cheesy zoom ins, the Picture in Picture harmonies and the egregious amounts of hair all over their bodies,” says Jay Foster (co-lead vocals, keys, synths). “Wait Up For Me has similar themes to old ABBA tunes; the dramatic emotional lyrics about the trials and tribulations of love, the four on the floor dancey beat and the fact that we’ve all gotten pretty shaggy over the last year of the pandemic. It all seemed to fit together perfectly."

Directed by Jack Hawley, with lighting assistance and camera work provided by video crew, Jamie Gagain, Stephanie Hallihan, and Antonio Pezoulas, the video shows the lively group grooving to their thunderous sound in a flush white studio amid fast and playful cuts, 70s styled clothing, and synchronized dance moves. Paula Proksch also perfected the group’s hair and make-up to further help emulate the disco dance stylings.

Seeing some of the early cuts of the video put smiles on our faces. Once we had our 70s style outfits on and the hair was ready to go, we really got into the spirit. Paul’s chest hair makes a meaningful appearance, [I’ve] got the long hair and stache right now, AJs got the sweet sunglasses, plus Ryan and Mike have all the dance moves.”

Wait Up For Me comes from Long Range Hustle’s new album, out this fall, and marks as the band’s third single of 2021, following Comeback Kid and American Cash.

About the song, Jay says,“When this song was first written it was just for me: a slow, drifting heartbreaker of a piano ballad. But on a writing weekend I tested it out with the band and it took off. We put a fat four on the floor beat underneath, sped it up, put it in a higher key and all of a sudden there was a breath of new life and strength in an otherwise cold, lonely ballad that I was going to keep tucked away for rainy days.”

“This is an anthem for the meek and emotionally unavailable. It’s a passionate post mortem about losing someone before you realize it’s too late to convince them to stay. Sometimes life forces you to learn a hard lesson: if you love someone, let them in.”

“It’s a raw view into my internal monologue while in the throes of heartbreak after losing someone I love. When you’re this low, your blind spots become mountains, regret defeats gratitude and it doesn’t feel like things will ever get better. Put simply, this is a breakup song.”
