Toronto, ON – January 15, 2020 – Today, French-Canadian multitalented-musician, Julien Manaud, releases his new EP, Adaptation Vol. 2, via Lisbon Lux Records. Adaptation Vol. 2 follows the 2019 release of Adaptation Vol. 1, again showcasing Manaud performing covers of Lisbon Lux’s own catalogue of tracks from varied artists. Listen to the full EP here.

Manaud shares his thoughts on the record: The reception of the lead single Save Me From Myself is far reaching on Spotify. You can see that the song is heard around the world and it touches me deeply, because this record was created and recorded in such an intimate and closed context. It's touching to see that people from Singapore, Mexico and Oslo loving the song... I’m so excited to be sharing full EP today, as it can allow me to create a new march after this globally stressful year of 2020.”

The inspiration of covering songs from varied Lisbon Lux artists began when Manaud was singing his daughter to sleep. After growing tired of singing the same nursery rhymes to her, he began singing songs from the artists he worked with to her. His vocals were soon accompanied by him playing the piano and it dawned on Manaud that he wanted to record these songs with a different pianist and in a professional setting. He explains, “I introduced the project to Alexis Dumais, who a few weeks, later presented some incredible arrangements to me. It was while listening to his proposal that I felt that we could make this record. I come from a background where I imagine music very arranged, with synthesizers, chords, choirs, guitars etc... I had to discipline myself a lot to keep this project only piano and vocals, without any other arrangements. The advantage of the piano/voice duo is that it is timeless, without any mark of time.”

Alexis Dumais joins Manaud on the three tracks following Save Me From Myself, featuring Lisbon Lux artists: Das Mörtal (Midnight Rendez-Vous), Kid Francescoli (Dirty Blonde) and HWYS (Beaches). On Dirty Blonde, Julien teams up with fellow labelmate, Laurence Giroux-Do, from Le Couleur, for a lovely rendition of the track. This stripped-down EP is intimate and personal – heightened by the added touch of piano on each track.

At the end of 2020, Manaud released the EP’s lead single, Save Me From Myself, and shared the stunning official video for the track. Shot at Studio PM in Montreal, the video features a tasteful black and white scene with Manaud on vocals, accompanied by pianist, Alexis Dumais, who we saw on Adaptations Vol. 1. “The director, Adrian Villagomez, has a very clean and sober style, which I really appreciate. He knows how to capture moments while being very discreet. We regularly work with him for live recordings,” shares Manaud. Watch the video for Save Me From Myself here. Save Me From Myself has already garnered a lot of attention on Spotify – not to mention being added to a number of Spotify playlists including: Acoustic Pilates, Cozy Coffeehouse Covers, Laidback Acoustic, Moons of Oficina and Acústico Pilates.

About Julien Manaud
Julien Manaud defines himself as a music cinematographer – both composer and musician, performer and also sound engineer, producer, editor, and manager. He has worn several hats in this industry since the start of his career. Manaud became known in Quebec in 2007 as the guitarist for the band Chinatown. He then pursued a career as a composer for for commercials, video games and TV shows, for a few years, but quickly realized that he missed album releases and performing at festivals. In 2013, he produced Voyage Love, Le Couleur’s first EP, and founded Lisbon Lux Records to market the album, while creating a different kind of lable with a precise artistic direction. Seven years later, Manaud has had a big role in the development of the careers of Quebec artists such as Le Couleur, Das Mörtal, Paupière and Bronswick, all of which resonate in Quebec but also abroad, laying down the groundwork for international exports; the hallmark of Lisbon Lux Records.
