“Since letting some light in, and showing some openness to more conventional production, Pemberton has crafted his most fully-realized and best album yet.” - Beatroute

truly getting to know Pemberton on a new level.” –

“…his most provocative and well-executed album and a high water mark
 for hip-hop on this continent.”

Always a literate, smart and — mainly — narrative rap artist, Rollie Pemberton was always married to his own muse and chasing none of the day’s trends. That’s why he can make an album that sounds as old skool and near-classic hip hop as this 12-track album does…” – Vancouver Sun

Toronto, ON – January 19, 2018 –  Today, Cadence Weapon releases his much anticipated, new self-titled album via eOne Music. The album is his first since 2012’s Hope In Dirt City, which was second to be nominated for a Polaris Music Prize. The album premiered via CBC Music in Canada, and Hype Machine in the US. Purchase and stream Cadence Weapon here.

The album features appearances from Deradoorian, Blue Hawaii, Brendan Phillip and Casey MQ, and tracks from producers, Kaytranada, Francis Got Heat, Jacques Green and Harrison. The 12-track album is a reintroduction to Cadence Weapon as an artist, and he's excited for the world to experience this new beginning.

Fans were able to sample the new project through a series of singles, including ode to the condo boom High Rise, independence anthem, Large, self-assured verses on  Don’t Talk To Me (prod. FrancisGotHeat), and the critically acclaimed Kaytranada-produced,  My Crew (Woooo).

Cadence will be sharing the new music on stage this winter, as he has announced new tour dates in Ontario and Quebec, commencing with a spot at Hillside Inside Festival in Guelph, ON on February 9, through March, supporting New York trio, Too Many Zooz. See below for a complete list of dates.

Recognized as Canada’s “most creative” rapper by the National Post, Cadence Weapon has consistently exhibited a passion to take rap into new and unexpected directions. Born in Edmonton, Cadence had an upbringing uniquely suited to becoming a rapper. His father Teddy, a Brooklyn native, was the DJ that introduced hip-hop to Edmonton with his pioneering radio show, The Black Experience in Sound, on CJSR 88.5 FM. After spending his childhood immersed in his father’s diverse archive of music, Cadence started rapping at age 13. Soon, he was entering freestyle battles, rocking shows with his uncle’s funk band and teaching himself how to make beats.

Following the online success of his Cadence Weapon Is The Black Hand mixtape, Cadence released his self-produced debut album, Breaking Kayfabe, in December 2005 at the age of 19. The album was met with international critical acclaim, with the BBC praising its mix of “vivid, scattershot rhymes” and “techno-tinged beats.” In 2009, Cadence was appointed Poet Laureate of Edmonton, making him the literary ambassador of his home city for two years, during which he was invited to read poetry for an event at the 2010 Winter Olympics.
