Toronto, ON – January 24, 2020 – Today, dynamic Victoria, BC-based electronica group, Astrocolor, return with a fresh new track, Laughter. This is the second single to be released off Astrocolor’s forthcoming album, Hue, following Renegade which was released in October 2019. Fans can expect more news on the release date of Hue soon, due out on Entertainment One this spring. Watch the video for Laughter here.

Laughter features the highly recognizable, timeless Stax Record sample of Wendy Rene’s 1964 song, After Laughter (Comes Tears). Says producer/DJ Neil Cooke-Dallin:

"While we were recording and arranging Laughter, it occurred to me that a very soulful vocal might work well in what was, at the time, just an instrumental track. Wendy Rene's iconic performance immediately came to mind and I dropped it into the track DJ style in order to present the idea to the rest of the band,” he says. “We immediately recognized that there was no replacing that iconic voice and went about clearing the sample. Although Wendy Rene's performance is well known in hip hop and dub reggae circles, we are very excited to be re-inventing a classic as an Astrocolor jam with a deep latin groove."

The video was filmed on location at the Surf Motel, an iconic motel and attraction in Victoria, BC, and follows each band member receiving a 'clarion call' from DJ Neil Cooke-Dallin, causing them to drop their respective daytime activities and meet him at the motel for a performance. The song was mixed by San Francisco based music producer, engineer, mixer, remixer, mastering engineer and film maker, Count. He has worked with artists such as Radiohead, The Rolling Stones, Frank Sinatra and most recently Tycho, who’s latest album, Weather, has been GRAMMY-nominated for Best Dance/Electronic Album.

This February, Astrocolor is playing two upcoming shows in their home province of British Columbia. They will be playing a DJ set at the Song and Surf Festival on February 16th and on the 29th, the group will be performing at Robert’s Creek Hall. See more details below.

Based in western Canada, Astrocolor perform and record live electronic music, recalling The Chemical Brothers, Air, and St. Germain. The band plays on the edges of funky house, Balearic, breakbeat, and ambient, and have been nominated for Electronic Artist of the Year at the Western Canadian Music Awards.

Astrocolor have brought their celebratory live show to seminal west coast music festivals including Burning Man, Rifflandia, Center of Gravity, Golden Sound, Song & Surf, Tall Tree, and Atmosphere Gathering. The band has also made debut appearances in Toronto (Canadian Music Week), Seattle (Upstream Music Festival), Vancouver (with Five Alarm Funk at the legendary Commodore Ballroom), St Louis, Chicago, and Costa Rica (Bamboo Bass Festival).
