Toronto, ON – March 23, 2017 – A Tribe Called Red is kicking off 2017 in a big way. Today, the critically acclaimed group announces a virtual reality app, along with a 360° music video for their track, Indian City. The app will be available exclusively in Canada through the SESQUI app, MERIDIAN VR, from May 2nd until July 1st, and will live on the band’s own Indian City app worldwide. The Indian City 360° VR music video will be released on May 2nd on YouTube – the 2D version premiered last month on The Fader.

The app will showcase the Indian City 360° virtual reality music video, with additional interactive features. Earlier this week, at the Hot Docs press conference, attendees were given a sneak preview of the virtual reality of Indian City:

"When you watch traditional music videos it’s quick cuts. With this piece, it’s one shot. How they film it is actually very interesting. It’s a fascinating, different experience and very immersive in that way. It’s an interesting way to show music videos and I'm curious to see out how VR will evolve in the next few years." – Jane Hui Wang, Filmmaker, Last Harvest

"I went to a Tribe Called Red concert a few months ago, but I think for anybody who has never had the opportunity to experience their shows or what their music has to offer, the 360° video is a great introduction to what the audience can expect. It's a fusion of traditional, Indigenous dance influences with a more postmodern, b-boy like style. It's cool to see those elements merged together." – Shaka Licorish, International Associate Programmer, Hot Docs

"Traditionally when we watch music videos we just sit in front of a screen and that’s really it. I was surprised to see that when I turned around that there’s a bunch of people behind me that I didn’t know were there. Just by the 360° of the video, it's very dynamic and allows the viewer to really immerse themselves in the experience." – Shaka Licorish, International Associate Programmer, Hot Docs

The announcement comes on the heels of the band’s nominations for three JUNO Awards – Electronic Album of the Year, Producer of the Year, and Video of the Year for R.E.D. The group is also set to perform at the Awards broadcast on Sunday, April 2nd.

We Are The Halluci Nation was released on September 16th to critical acclaim. The record hit #1 on the iTunes Canada Top 200, spent two weeks at #1 on Earshot!, and reached #2 on the iTunes USA Top 200 Electronic chart. We Are The Halluci Nation was also named the #1 record on CBC’s list of the 25 best Canadian albums of 2016. Featuring appearances by from Yasiin Bey (formerly known as Mos Def), Saul Williams, Polaris Prize-winning throat singer Tanya Tagaq, Shad, Lido Pimienta, Leonard Sumner, John Trudell, Northern Voice, The Chippewa Travellers, and more, We Are The Halluci Nation is a visionary blend of electronic and dance music that’s forward-thinking with a deep sense of heritage and cultural identity.

“A visionary trio of DJs…there probably isn’t anything else like it on Earth.” – Washington Post
