TORONTO, ON – April 14, 2023 – Chart-topping rock band, The Revivalists, have released a brand new album track, Down In The Dirt, today from their forthcoming studio album, Pour It Out Into The Night (out June 2 via Concord Records), as lead radio single, Kid, remains at #1 at AAA for the second week in a row (their fourth career #1 at the format) and Top 5 at Alternative Radio.
Featuring a stark, driving guitar line, a rootsy melody, and warm melodic vocal harmonies, Down In The Dirt paints a portrait of the intersection of family, childhood, and religion. “Down in the Dirt is like a mini family epic that reckons with the big questions of life. I was inspired to write this song after happening upon a performance by ‘Southern Gothic’ New Orleans folk trio called The Wanting. I was struck by their song called Dark Road. (Chris Jacob is credited as a co-writer on the song for the inspiration). So, I listened back to that song while walking my dog the next day and the first lines of ‘Down in the Dirt’ popped in my head, and I completed the song over the next few months before the world went on pause for the pandemic,” says guitarist, Zack Feinberg.
The Revivalists’ hit lead single Kid – which has become the first ever song to hit 700+ plays in a week on the Mediabase AAA Chart – is a hopeful anthem invoking the zest for life, self-belief, catharsis and “living for the spirit now” as the song declares, featuring an infectious melody and piano peeking through bright acoustic guitar as intricate layers of the band's distinctive instrumentation power a euphoric chantable chorus. Directed by Johnny Chew, the graffiti-inspired music video features artful, eye-popping stop-motion animation of the band against a backdrop that pays homage to the architectural and artistic aesthetics that define the band’s home of New Orleans. The band also recently released the politically charged album track, The Long Con. Featuring a gospel-style chant and a punchy groove amped up by waves of distortion, the track acknowledges the deep divisions in our country with the hope that we can hold onto the power of love.
Pour It Out Into The Night is a life-affirming album about living in the moment that offers both an unburdening and an appreciation for the here and now, fueled by lessons in gratitude and life realizations. As the world came to a standstill in the years since their last album, Take Good Care, personal experiences and life challenges abounded, with band members having their first children, getting married, and navigating the mental hurdles of lockdown. The band’s process for this record was the most self-guided one yet, and was produced by GRAMMY Award-winning producer, Rich Costey [Muse, Foster the People, Death Cab for Cutie], with co-production from lead vocalist and guitarist, David Shaw, Feinberg, and the rest of the band.
The Revivalists are renowned for their live prowess, soulful alt-rock anthems, and distinct mix of many of the classic styles of American music, led by the incredible voice of front man David Shaw, will deliver a big hometown set at New Orleans JazzFest on April 29 and are also set to perform at festivals including Bonnaroo in June and Lollapalooza in August before embarking on their North American tour, including a Toronto stop on July 26, co-headline dates with The Head and The Heart beginning June 30, and co-headline dates with Band Of Horses beginning July 28.
