TORONTO, ON – January 21, 2022 – Today, Hong Kong-born and Canadian-raised indie-folk rocker, Tennyson King, releases his nomadic, naturistic, and introspectively themed album, Good Company. Produced by JUNO nominated, Ross Hayes Citrullo, the album is available to purchase and stream everywhere now. To mark the occasion, Tennyson has also released the standout track and video from the record, What Am I Doing. Watch the official video here. To further mark the Good Company occasion, Tennyson will be doing two live streams today: he will be on Facebook at 7:00pm EST/4:00pm PST and on Instagram at 8:30pm EST/5:30pm PST.

“I decided on the name idea/name of Good Company because I want the songs to be good company to the listeners,” says Tennyson. “I want it to be something that they can put on and feel like they have a friend telling them stories, letting them know they are not alone, sharing my life with them and personally singing songs to them.

“When I am with people, meeting new people, or with friends, I want to be good company for them, despite any cultural differences, ideological differences… I think if we all tried to be good company to each other, the world would be a more peaceful place.”

Good Company is based on Tennyson’s experiences with group and solo travel, exploration, nature, the ocean, backpacking, culture, hostel stay-overs, relationships, connections with people, and taking the time to enjoy life and embrace the moment. The album was recorded in Toronto at RHC Studios in the heart of the pandemic. With Tennyson’s tours cancelled, it left him grounded, and provided a unique opportunity to focus and work on his craft with Citrullo, first virtually and then as restrictions eased, in studio.

With hard work and concentration, the songs quickly evolved from demos, to beds, to scratch tracks and then to final products, with additional help from Darcy Yates (Bahamas). Tennyson was pushed to his maximum potential, which can be heard throughout the record, as highlighted on its previously released singles, It Ain’t Easy, Share This Moment, Slow Down, and Life On Shore (Carry Me Away).

“Sometimes at the studio, it is such a blur, and you forget the thing you literally just wrote and recorded,” remembers Tennyson. “So, listening back, it’s cool to just enjoy and hear something… I just wanted to tell my stories, share songs that I have written and choose the ones that felt the best. The songs create a nice rollercoaster ride of emotions, journeys, adventures and stories and it definitely captures a bit of my life and what I have been going through the past few years.”

On What Am I Doing, Tennyson adds: "The idea of this song began when I woke up at a hotel not really realizing where I was... as I had just played 7 different shows in 7 different cities in 7 days. It's also a reflection of the path I have chosen and the highs and lows of being a musician. Questioning what I'm actually doing with my life, what am I searching for, am I searching? Or if the search is the journey of life. This often comes up with my family as the path I've chosen isn't traditionally supported by Chinese families and I'm often questioned by my family about what I'm doing with my life. Which often makes the idea of "chasing my dreams" even harder mentally."

Due to the pandemic, Tennyson King’s cross country Canadian tour has been postponed: his Toronto album release show at the Drake Underground has been moved to Thursday March 10, 2022. You can get your tickets here and stay tuned as the Good Company adventure continues this spring.
