SHARES MEDITATIVE NEW VIDEO FOR ALBUM TRACK
THE (NEVER) END
TORONTO, ON – August 4, 2022 – Following the spring release of her stunning debut full-length album, Sentimental Ballad, Toronto-based singer-songwriter, Teagan Johnston (formerly known as Little Coyote), is thrilled to now share her new songs in a live setting. On September 8th, Teagan will take to the stage at the Monarch Tavern to celebrate the record and bring Sentimental Ballad to life.
“This show will be my first time playing with a full band since August 2019,” says Teagan. “The songs on my recently released album have never been played with a band live, and I’m really looking forward to properly sharing these songs for the first time, in this wonderful intimate Toronto venue.”
Carrying on with the hometown theme, Teagan today shares a video for the evocative album track, The (Never) End. Filmed at the corner of Bloor Street West and Avenue Road in Toronto, the fast-paced cityscape video begins to feel nearly hypnotic, mirroring the rhythmic nature of the song.
“Dzesika Devic filmed me for about an hour as I continuously crossed the street circling the four corners of the intersection,” reflects Teagan. “It was a really meditative exercise, similar to the song itself in that it’s very repetitive, but never the same which I find lends a lot of space for thought.”
ABOUT TEAGAN JOHNSTON AND SENTIMENTAL BALLAD:
Formerly known as Little Coyote, Teagan Johnston (she/they), is a singer-songwriter who drives the genre beyond its current borders, bringing a radical rawness to her work that hits you in your heart. Born in the Yukon, raised between South Africa, Spain, Switzerland and the West Coast of Canada, Teagan brings a vast and ever layered perspective to her work.
Compared to the likes of Fiona Apple, Regina Spektor, and Nick Cave, Tegan’s debut ‘The Trouble with Teeth’ was released in October 2017 with the enthusiastic support of EggHunt Records. Her following 2019 EP, Stay Gold, received many accolades and acclaims from various media outlets, such as VICE’s Noisey, PopMatters & more. A seasoned and experienced live performer, at home playing solo or backed by a band, Teagan has toured North America and Europe, including performing a special set at David Lynch’s prestigious private Paris nightclub Silencio.
Sentimental Ballad is a raw expression of heartache, told through minimalistic piano and lyrically driven songs, accentuated by Johnston’s stunning vocals. A deeply personal record, Sentimental Ballad is perhaps Johnston’s most honest artistic expression that she has ever been able to share. The songs are both strong and powerful while also holding space for softness and vulnerability. Combining Johnston’s delicately detailed piano playing with lyrics full of love and longing, she seeks to explore human darkness and the fabric of our dreams.
The album was created and released entirely independently, and exactly the way she has always wanted – free from the opinions and agendas of anyone but Johnston. Playing every part in creating the record, she teamed up with friend and recording engineer, Devon Lougheed, to help mix and produce.
Teagan partakes in several art forms outside of music as a means of communication and creative expression. She has modelled for Canadian fashion designer Evan Biddell, and written OP ED articles for The Toronto Star and She Does The City. In 2019 Teagan played her breakout acting role as Catherine in a Canadian Indie Horror movie The Strings as well as composing original music for the film. Outlets such as The New York Times, The A.V. Club, Bloody Disgusting and more have called Johnston’s performance and music in the film “commanding” and “magnetic.”
