SAMANTHA MARTIN & DELTA SUGAR ANNOUNCE LOVE IS ALL AROUND TOUR

EPIC 10-PIECE BAND HITTING CITIES ACROSS WESTERN CANADA THIS NOVEMBER

JUNO-NOMINATED LATEST ALBUM THE RECKLESS ONE OUT NOW

TORONTO, ON - October  20, 2022 - After being unable to tour around their JUNO-nominated 2020 album, The Reckless One, and then after having to cancel a January 2022 west coast Canadian tour, acclaimed soul-based group, Samantha Martin & Delta Sugar, are finally able to take their sound to stage. The band is thrilled to return to the road next month for their Love Is All Around tour, which kicks off November 13, and takes the epic 10-piece-band throughout western Canada. Full details can be found below and on the band’s website.

Offers Samantha: “This tour was originally supposed to take place back in January/February, but due to the omicron wave we were forced to postpone until now, and so many folks worked tirelessly to reschedule the tour. It brings me so much joy to be back on the road, especially with the 10-piece band which is how I have always envisioned the music to be performed. This tour is also going to be extra special for me personally as I am pregnant – so this will technically be baby’s first tour as well! It’s been a long time coming, but I promise it is a show you’ll never forget!”

The Love Is All Around tour is complete with a live horn section and Samantha is also four months pregnant, “so I guess technically it is baby's first tour as well,” adds Samantha. Steve Marriner will be opening the shows, and both groups have been nominated for JUNOs for their most recent records (Samantha Martin & Delta Sugar - The Reckless One 2020) (Steve Marriner - Hope Dies Last 2021).

With the worldwide pandemic wrecking utter havoc upon the careers of many musicians, Samantha Martin and Delta Sugar elected to use their time off the road to finish and release their latest tour-de-force, the astonishingly powerful, funky and deeply soulful The Reckless One (released in November 2020).

The follow up to 2018’s JUNO-nominated, Run To Me, The Reckless One represents another massive step forward for Samantha Martin as a songwriter, singer, arranger and band leader. Eleven of the album’s twelve songs were either co-written or solely composed by the multi-talented, multi-faceted artist. The one non-original, a funk infused cover of Bob Dylan’s, Meet Me in the Morning, fuses Dylan’s lyric in a cataclysmic clash with the sensibilities of the Meters and the hurricane force of Howlin’ Wolf and Tina Turner at their rawest. It simply has to be heard to be believed.

Produced by Darcy Yates and Renan Yildizdogan, The Reckless One demonstrably builds on the strengths of Samantha Martin and Delta Sugar’s last album. Martin’s lyrics, set to a panoply of intoxicating, ear worm melodies, tend to focus on the vicissitudes of love: desire, disappointment and, when everything works out, emotional and sexual satisfaction. The album’s twelve tracks cover a lot of ground, including 12/8 gospel infused soul ballads such as I’ve Got a Feeling and Better to Have Never; funk-inflected tracks like Love is All Around; stomping four-on-the-floor dance numbers epitomized by Don’t Have To; and the Wall of Sound influenced, Sacrifice, which was featured as pick of the week in Rolling Stone Magazine.

The album went on to earn the group a 2021 JUNO nomination for Blues Album of The Year, as well as several Maple Blues Award nods in both 2020 and 2021, it topped the Canadian Album, Blues Album, and Soul Blues Album charts with Roots Music Report for several months, hit #1 on the Living Blues Charts out of the US, and #1 on The International Blues Broadcasters Charts out of the UK.
