GOUTTE À GOUTTE

TORONTO, ON – March 24, 2023 – Mixing hypnotic rhythms and explosive tension, Montreal’s Grand Public offer music built of angular textures and aerial melodies; the guitars intermingle and respond to each other, while the bass and percussion insert themselves into the vocal tunes. Today, the four-piece band shares their dreamy indie-pop infused EP, Idéal tempo, via Lisbon Lux Records. Listen here.

Grand Public – made up of Gregory Paquet (The Stills, Molly Rankin of Alvvays, Peter Peter) and three childhood friends who have played together in several bands over the years – took advantage of the pandemic era to bring the project to a boil, refining their sound and writing several songs; four of them coming to fruition with producer, Dominic Vanchesteing (Bernardino Femminielli, Marie Davidson, Julia Daigle).  Recorded live off the floor over the course of only a couple of days, at Alex Crow’s studio in the heart of the Plateau in Montreal, the band poured over every detail of the songs, and played with vocal harmonies for the first time.

“Our producer put a lot of emphasis on the harmonies and it definitely adds a rich layer to the songs – very much colours the mood of the EP,” reflects the band.

In tandem with the EP’s release, the band shares the music video for standout album track, Goutte à goutte. “All of the songs on Idéal tempo were recorded live with the most standard rock instrumentation: two guitars, bass and drums,” the band adds. “But we did use a 12-string guitar on Goutte à Goutte for that extra chimey, jangly magic, and we really like the way it came out – the sinuous, swirly, hazy feeling of it.” Watch Goutte à goutte here.

With more new music on the horizon, Grand Public give the ideal taste of their captivating sound with Idéal tempo. Stay tuned for what’s to come!
