MONTREAL ARTIST ORMISTON SHARES NEW SINGLE DISTORTION OF REALITY
Toronto, ON – March 17, 2023 – Ormiston - the solo project of Montreal-born Nicola Ormiston - is bringing a Distortion Of Reality with his new single. Out today via Lisbon Lux Records, the pristine indie emotional track draws inspiration from the songwriting of the 80s (a la Cindy Lauper) while establishing a more lo-fi contemporary sound. Listen to Distortion Of Reality here and watch the fantastic visualizer here.
Distortion Of Reality marks the beginning of a new era for Ormiston, unveiling a more dramatic and dreamlike sound after the release of his debut 2021 album, Hammer Down. Ormiston explores the identity crisis of a young adult, who lives his life unconsciously, without worrying about the harsh realities. The song is a sample of what will be heard on a new album, set to be released later this year.
Hammer Down, received over 400k streams, received incredible support from BBC, CBC, Amazing Radio and was featured on numerous playlists (Indie All Stars, it's a BOP!, Fresh Find Rock). Highlight track Time Fades appeared in Pete Davidson's latest film, Meet Cute.
Singer-songwriter and producer of a sunny and laidback sound, somewhere between indie pop, chillwave and yacht rock where you can find influences from Toro Y Moi, MGMT and electro-disco. Born into a bilingual Montreal family, he was raised around female musicians and grew up with a strong sense of melody. After mixing and producing some tracks for Milk & Bone, Heartstreets, Misage and Freida Mari, he released in 2013 the song Typically Her (under the name Beverlay) that ended up being remixed by Kaytranada, helping it reach more than 3 million streams worldwide. In 2020, he signed with Canadian label Lisbon Lux Records. On stage, his piercing voice is supported by his three outstanding musicians. He offers a lively and touching show that irresistibly invites you to dance.
