TORONTO, ON – May 17, 2022 – Sharing a message of love through creative narratives of intentional songwriting, intelligent melody and hypnotic production, rising, Vancouver, BC / London, UK singer-songwriter, Mauvey, continues to blaze his path. Today, Mauvey launches The King, an uplifting, vibrant track with empowering prose about equality, respect and the inherent value within us all. Listen to The King and watch the video here

Mauvey adds: “Throughout history ‘Kings’ (men) have been the most important people, the most protected people and the most respected people. I wanted to write a song tearing that apart. THE KING is a redistribution of power and respect to everyone, especially the immensely powerful women we have in our world.”

The video for The King was produced by Mauvey, and co-directed by Mauvey and Andrew Huculiak. Breeanne Brereton stars as The King, while Mauvey takes stage as The Martian. See below for a full list of personnel behind the production.

The King is Mauvey's first new single since the his 2021 mixtape, The Florist, released on December 10 via 604 Records. The release marked Mauvey's directorial debut with a short film, of the same title, accompanying the mixtape. Comprised of cinematic videos for standout tracks, The Florist can be watched here and listened to here.

The King received support from BBC 6 Music yesterday, and will be featured as BBC Introducing's Record of the Week on Saturday, May 21. The Florist has made waves on radio, landing at #21 on the Earshot Top 50 Chart, #27 on the NACC Top 200 Chart, #8 on NACC Electronic Chart, #17 on NACC Hip Hop Chart.

Mauvey says of The Florist: “I wanted to deliver something human with this mixtape. Love, at the end of the day, is real and unpredictable. My debut mixtape is a declaration of unpredictable, desperate love and self love. There’s some happy, there’s some sad, there’s some sad that sounds happy and there’s some happy that sounds sad. It’s human, it’s love, it’s real.”

In March, Mauvey made his debut at SXSW in Austin, Texas, cited as an 'Artist To Watch' by the revered festival itself, delivered five energetic showcases (including Range Magazine, Breakout West and M for Montreal). In Vancouver, Mauvey recently rocked support sets for Easy Life at Vancouver's Fortune Sound Club, and Snotty Nose Rez Kids at Commodore Ballroom. He returned to the UK this month, making his debut at The Great Escape Festival in Brighton.
