TORONTO, ON – July 7, 2023 – Today, LA’s Local Natives release their fifth studio album, Time Will Wait For No One, via Loma Vista Recordings across all formats (digital and physical) worldwide. To celebrate their new album, Local Natives surprised their fans this morning announcing a special, same day album release show at the Lodge Room Highland Park. A major underplay for the band in their hometown of Los Angeles, which promises to be an intimate and special evening for any lucky fans able to attend. Find tickets here and listen to the album here

Time Will Wait For No One was recorded across legendary Los Angeles studios including Valentine Recording Studio, 64Sound and Nest Recorders and is produced by GRAMMY-award winning producer, John Congleton (Angel Olsen, Death Cab For Cutie, St. Vincent, Sharon Van Etten), Michael Harris (Lana Del Rey, Feist), and Danny Reisch (Sun June, Other Lives). The album was written while the band was going through a turbulent time: after a decade spending every waking moment together, a period of metamorphosis started to test them with new marriages, kids and bouts of depression and isolation.

Last week the band released the single, Paradise, the group's most vivid expression of suffering and hope. The track opens with a soft guitar tremble, offering glimmers of the beauty of LA juxtaposed with personal tragedy. Paradise follows Kelcey Ayer (vocals/guitar/keys) and his wife’s immense heartache that came with the pain of pregnancy loss in addition to charting the California wildfire disasters.

Kelcey Ayer says: “Paradise deals with the reckoning after intense loss. The person in the song brings flowers over to someone’s house to help console them while they’re going through a disastrous event that’s still occurring. My wife and I suffered two losses while trying to have a baby over the last couple years. At the same time California was being ravaged by wildfires.  It felt like the world was coming apart.  This song definitely helped me process that pain.” Listen to Paradise here

Today, the album release is accompanied by single, Empty Mansions, a track with harmonious, rich vocals on the chorus that are punctuated by transfixing softer spoken-sung verses that paint a picture of self-doubt and self-imposed seclusion: “we’re just empty mansions on eroding shores / falling down so slowly no one notices at all.” Listen to Empty Mansions here.

Local Natives say, “Our new album begins with the ambient sound of Kelcey, Ryan and Taylor outside in the backyard of a Los Angeles studio singing these words together huddled around a single microphone. Suddenly, the song kicks in with the full fidelity of the entire band, repeating the lyrics like a mantra of reassurance. Time flows on uncontrollably and change is relentless, and the people you love are the only constants. This album was made during a time of metamorphosis for us. Former selves melting away as some of us became fathers. We endured periods of isolation, loss, and identity crisis. We grew and changed as individuals, but we found our way back to each other and made music that we can only make together.”

Local Natives recently announced a curated series of special in-store performances at some of the most storied independent record stores around southern California kicking off July 11 at Amoeba in Hollywood. A special Los Angeles edition of their album, with lemonade coloured vinyl, will be available at these in-stores plus limited, exclusive posters for each in-store. On August 18 the band will kick off a 30-date tour - criss-crossing the US, including performances at NYC’s Pier 17 on August 29, two nights at DC’s 9:30 Club on August 24 and 25, Austin's Stubbs on September 16 and the Vogue Theatre in Vancouver on September 25.

Based in Los Angeles, the group progressed their sound over the course of four full-length albums, Gorilla Manor [2009], Hummingbird [2013], Sunlit Youth [2016] and Violet Street [2019]. In the span of one year, the band performed twice on Jimmy Kimmel Live! For the first performance they were accompanied by Sharon Van Etten playing Lemon feat. Sharon Van Etten, off the Sour Lemon EP. They closed out 2021 with a performance of Roxy Music’s, More Than This, from Music From The Pen Gala 1983, an EP coinciding with their appearance in the Apple Original Series, The Shrink Next Door, starring Paul Rudd and Will Ferrell. Local Natives have received praise from Pitchfork, Consequence of Sound, The Guardian and many more. In between countless sold out shows and festival appearances - including a standout Coachella 2017 set - they’ve graced the stages of Austin City Limits, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, The Late Show With David Letterman, The Late Late Show With James Corden, Jimmy Kimmel Live! and more.
