TORONTO, ON – December 3, 2021 – Following the success of his latest album, Tropicon Islands, Jamaican-born, Toronto-based artist, author and arts community trailblazer, Lexxicon, makes his literary debut in releasing a novel of the same title. While the concept of the album resonates with various sonic chapters, set on a fictional locale, and capturing the many facets and journeys that weave into a relationship, the novel presents a contrasting narrative, blending sci-fi futuristic murder mystery with romance and suspense.

On the process, Lexxicon says: "I have written shorter novels before in high school for myself, but I always wanted to have a book I made for everyone to read and enjoy, and I finally found the time to make that dream a reality. The writing process took about a year to get everything done. It kept me going during the times when I wasn't creating music. Just seeing the final physical copy of the book makes me feel like I really accomplished something that I can look back on in a few years and still be proud of." When emerging global singing star Oceania dies in a mysterious accident after a sold-out 5,000-strong concert, young intern Adonis Thomas mutes his concerns about her untimely death. He just wants to carve out a place for himself in the heady world of mega-stars and talent management. However, when he realizes other major new voices are turning up dead, he begins to piece together a bizarre plot that reaches to the highest level of his company. Staying in the background, he discovers that billionaire investor Vernon Wilson, owner of Sephtis Entertainment, is using state-of-the-art AI technology to gain an edge over his rivals and make massive profits from the music artists he signs to his label. But, only if they’re dead. The startling truth he uncovers puts Adonis in a race against time to save both his life and the life of his loved ones and young stars who have signed with Sephtis Entertainment. On Tropicon Islands, the album, Lexxicon worked alongside Edmonton-based producer, Artafacts, to craft layered sonic elements and shaped its storyline in the company of incredible collaborators. He shared five singles leading up to the release of the album, including, One Last Time, marking a breaking point for the couple in the story, You Know Me - inspired by the signature pop of Beyoncé to the vibe of Tinashe - Back To You, with fellow Toronto artist, Desiire - a song filled with percussive energy, rhythmic baseline and sprinkled with beachy field recording samples, Bubble Everywhere, a single that captures the couple exploring the island where the album is set, inspiring listeners to dance, vibe and have a good time, Power Over Me, capturing a turning point in a couple’s relationship and their expression of feelings towards each other. |
