HOMETOWN TORONTO SHOW ANNOUNCED FOR DECEMBER 9 WITH PROCEEDS BENEFITTING PARKDALE ORGANIZE

TORONTO, ON – November 3, 2023 – After releasing two dynamic funk-fuelled tracks earlier this year - DANGEROUS and TOO CLOSE - trailblazing Toronto artist and emcee, Lex Leosis, was eagerly gearing up for the summer release of a new album and a year filled with touring. Then her plans were derailed. An ATV accident in Iceland left Lex with broken ribs, a punctured lung, and her original plans for 2023 placed on hold. After months of physical rehab, Lex is now back and ready for a new start, beginning with the release of her aptly-titled new single, Minor Setback. Listen here and watch the captivating accompanying music video here

"Since I got hurt, I vaulted this song, and I found myself in a setback and needing to restart," Lex reflects. "This song felt like the perfect release to kick off that journey."

Soulful and vulnerable, Minor Setback shines with Lex's reflective lyrics, backed by melodic piano-fronted instrumentals and smooth beats provided by Richmond, VA producer, Tee-WaTT (Aminé, YG) – who connected with Lex after gravitating towards her freestyles on TikTok in 2020/2021.

Though the timing of Minor Setback's release and life of the song may have taken on new meaning following Lex's accident, the track's origins were provoked by Lex's community at her past residence of 55 Triller Avenue in Toronto's Parkdale neighbourhood. Faced with a slew of issues brought on by the building's landlord and property management company, the residents banded together to collectively fight against wrongful evictions after the pandemic. Though it felt like a hopeless situation at times, the community didn't back down and were successfully able to defend their homes.

Minor Setback reflects on the forward motion brought on by these times, with Lex meditating on perseverance after countless road blocks, let downs and the hopeless feeling of wanting to give up.
"Three bills down with roaches in the kitchen
And eviction notice sitting in on my living room floor
And I feel like giving up some days
And others feel like I gotta give way more"

As part of the Minor Setback release, Lex is excited to begin sharing her new (as well as some upcoming unreleased) music live, and announces her first hometown Toronto show of 2023, on December 9 at Laylow. With a goal of supporting her community through her music, proceeds from the show will benefit Parkdale Organize, a group that directly supports the 55 Triller building tenants. Find tickets and more info here, and get ready for Lex Leosis' major comeback, starting with Minor Setback today.

ABOUT LEX LEOSIS:
Known for her dynamic flows, high energy stage presence and elaborate story telling, Lex Leosis is a name you don’t forget. With a unique gravely vocal delivery, acrobatic flows, and lyrical prowess, Lex breathes life into contemporary Hip-Hop and mesmerizes with her rapping abilities. Setting herself uniquely apart by holding space for various causes and using her platform to support other women and non-binary artists and creatives, Lex is not afraid to give props where it’s due. She’s got an attack in her flow, juxtaposed with a finesse in her lyricism and a hunger in her vocal tone. Her family gave her traditions, Toronto shaped her, and California helped form her sound.

Lex spent 2017 -2019 devoting herself to Canadian rap group powerhouse, The Sorority, touring extensively, sharing stages with artists like Miguel, Joey Badass & Snoop Dogg. After the group disbanded in 2019, Lex lead 2020 with her debut full length, Mythologies; a trap heavy project that allowed her to explore her Greek roots and family history. Despite a derailed album release plan due to COVID-19, she followed the project  with summer bop, Pull Up, and the Rap-House collaboration, Swerve, with DJ Cazztek, released under Armin Van Buuren’s label, Armada.

Lex found opportunity and inspiration during COVID lockdown establishing a new sound; taking control of her artistry by learning keys, bass and taking vocal lessons. She formed a team of creatives around her and using her tools, experience and community, developed her quintessential Lex Leosis sound with smooth west coast vibey instrumentation under melodious hooks and biting hip hop verses. All this culminated with her 2021 EP, Terracotta, follow-up duo project, 2WINS, with Keysha Freshh, and a string of 2023 singles including standout track, Dangerous. Searching for an outlet to continue to rap bars, Lex began daily duets on TikTok and has amassed millions of views on her videos, drawing the attention of TikTok Canada and numerous artists from Arkells to Fred Durst. Lex's next chapter included signing recently with Vancouver-based media company, The District, and is now ushering in her next project, set to make her return to music and live performance after a hiatus through 2023.
