TORONTO, ON – December 14, 2023 – In the wake of landing nominations in all three major rap categories (album, song and performance) of the GRAMMY Awards for his acclaimed 2023 album, MICHAEL, Killer Mike has collaborated with the iconic Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley to reimagine his anthem of perseverance, RUN. Originally released on July 4, 2022 as the lead single from MICHAEL, RUN is a statement record about Black excellence in the face of systemic adversity and the intrinsic role Black people have had in shaping American culture and economy. The new RUN (Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley version), available on all DSPs now, provides a lens through which to understand the global resonance of the original’s theme. The album has been heralded as “a complex portrait of Southern Black masculinity” for its holistic portrayal of Michael’s come up in Atlanta, an enriching and relatable working class story of perseverance, responsibility, and community. Even before the GRAMMY nods (and Charlamagne Tha God’s assessment on Brilliant Idiots this past week that it should win Rap Album of the Year) Mike and the album have been a cultural fixture throughout the year, with previous accolades including two BET Awards nominations for SCIENTISTS & ENGINEERS (in the IMPACT TRACK and SWEET 16 FEATURED VERSE categories) as well as year-end accolades from New York Times, Billboard, Esquire and more, amid appearances on Kelly Clarkson, The Breakfast Club, Sway in the Morning, Idea Generation, and many, many more.
