TORONTO, ON – March 24, 2023 – Celebrating with one Wild Party, Toronto singer-songwriter, Darrelle London, is overjoyed to release her brand new children’s album, Primary! Out today, the dazzling, awe-inspiring collection of “Kindie” (Kid-Indie) songs takes listeners on a journey through a colourful world of curiosity, creativity and laughter. Dive in to Primary here!

Perfectly capturing the spirit of the record is Wild Party – a catchy pop-punk styled song about some unexpected furred and feathered party crashers. "One of the joys of writing kids’ music is that no topic is too strange or too silly,” says London. “I wrote this song on ukulele but it ended up having pop/punk/rock production, and it offers instructions on what to do when wild animals crash your birthday party – because, why not?" Have a look at the colourful animated music video, which arrived alongside the album release today.

With a back-catalogue of albums that have been described as “quirky” and “whimsical” – though not necessarily aimed towards kids – it was a natural progression for London to take her musical style and turn it into her first full-length children’s album. Primary perfectly treads the line between music for kids and music for grown-ups, with enchanting lyrical storytelling set to infectious indie-pop instrumentation. Produced by Dean Drouillard, and featuring some of Canada’s best session players bringing London’s imaginative tunes to life with jubilant horns and lush strings, the album carries listeners on a journey through a colourful world of curiosity, creativity, and laughter.

“I am so thrilled to finally share these songs with the world,” exclaims London. “Families have been so supportive of the first singles, which means the world to me.  It’s such an honour to be incorporated into a family’s life through music, whether it’s a bedtime pajama dance party or a long car ride. I feel so grateful and I can’t wait to hear what the little ones think of the album!”

A mother of two young’uns herself, Primary marks the first time that London made an album since her children were babies. While playing the role of teacher (among many other things!) during the initial COVID lockdowns, London’s children would ask questions and she felt compelled to answer them in the form of songs. The songs on Primary explore the small wonders of life, such a seeing the moon out during the day (Day Moon); simple pleasures, like going for ice cream with a friend on a hot summer day (Ice Cream); they joy found in creating art just for the sake of it (Primary and Let’s Make Something New); and even important lessons like why we should respect even the tiniest of creatures (Bugs).
