DEBUT ALBUM SET TO ARRIVE THIS FALL
TORONTO, ON – July 6, 2023 – Breakthrough pop singer-songwriter, Laur Elle, is gearing up to release her debut album this fall. After sharing the shimmering lead single, Burning Out, she followed with the insatiably fun new track, The Man, which now sees the premiere of its cinematic music video today. A cheeky, desert-set western film-inspired adventure, the video perfectly accompanies the song's undeniable playfulness. Watch here.
"The Man was born out of a relationship that felt too good to be true," Laur Elle says of the song's inspiration. "After a perfect start, the guy did a total 180 and decided to tell me all the ways he thinks men are better than women. I was shocked and of course had to write about it. Playfully and introspectively, I explore the internal struggle of uncovering the truth about someone while having to fight off lingering feelings.
It's so interesting to me how lived experience can shape the meaning of words—how two people can say the exact same sentence, and yet the intention and weight behind those words can be so different. This is really what The Man is about at its core. I found myself getting to know someone who said all the right things, only to find out that what we wanted wasn't the same. I wanted a relationship, and he wanted a trophy. I've always loved taking painful experiences and packaging them as feel-good, uplifting indie pop songs, and this one is truly the most fun song yet."
The video for The Man is the first instalment in an interconnected series that will take viewers through Laur Elle's forthcoming new album.
"I wrote this record in the middle of the most chaotic chapter of my life," she continues. "A long-term relationship had ended, and I decided to move to a new country. I left comfort and a piece of my heart in a city where I'd spent the last nine years, packed up my car, and drove 35 hours to Los Angeles. Every song on this record feels like a stop on this road trip; an attempt to find myself again. All of the visuals from the upcoming album are connected to each other, and I am so excited to share the very first stop with you. The Man takes place in the middle of the desert after my car breaks down. It's always been a dream to make a western music video, and we did exactly that! This video definitely shows a side of me that most people haven't seen before. I wanted to start this video series off with something to talk about, and I think we did just that!"
As a singer-songwriter who has always been enamoured by the power of words, Laur Elle is a true multi-talented self-starter through and through. The LA-based (by way of Alberta, Canada) pop artist uses her music to process her own emotions, with a musical vision that is intrinsically tied to her own voice. After time as an internationally competitive gymnast for the Canadian national team, she immersed herself in the creative community and has quickly proven that while poetry was her artistic starting point, music is truly her calling. With music that starts with her pen and her guitar, Laur Elle’s airy vocals, grounded lyrics and lush sound, create the perfect vehicle for escapism — a sound she calls perfect for running (or, more appropriately, driving) away from problems. Writing is her escape, and she’s ready to offer the same kind of solace for her listeners.
