"Sometimes the minute you hear a voice, you know it's for the ages. That's how Canadian Bella White, the daughter of a Virginia bluegrasser, enters the picture. Making her second album now, at 22, White is poised for a major breakthrough. This is her origin story." - NPR

“At just 22, Bella White is a songwriting prodigy and emotional alchemist.” - Grammy.com

“Sublime Appalachian heartbreak.” - Rolling Stone

“(‘Break My Heart’) is an instant classic”Folk Alley

TORONTO, ON – March 17, 2023 – Calgary-born singer-songwriter/multi-instrumentalist, Bella White, will release her new album, Among Other Things, on April 21 via Rounder Records and today she shares another taste of the LP by way of new single, Flowers On My Bedside. The single – both raw and mournful – took shape as White tapped into the bracing lucidity that sometimes accompanies heartache.  She says, “Flowers On My Bedside is a song for empowerment. I wrote it when I was in a sad place and it was a very healing experience, to take a hard situation and turn it into something that feels creatively inspiring.” Listen to/share Flowers On My Bedside here.

Among Other Things was produced by Jonathan Wilson and features Buck Meek of Big Thief on guitar.  White has teased the album with a handful of songs that together give the listener a sense of her remarkable writing and life-long-honed skills as a bluegrass player. “Bella White stands out as the youngest in her class of breakthrough virtuosos defined by the likes of Billy Strings and Amythyst Kiah. Her poetic poignancy conjures up the palpable devastation from a novice lover whose heart —one brimming with naïve ideas of romance—has shattered into a seemingly irreparable form,” said American Songwriter. Previous releases include last year’s  The Way I Oughta Go the gorgeous and reflective Rhododendron and last month’s Break My Heart.

Among Other Things is available for pre-order here digitally and on LP with specialty vinyl in Garnet and Tiger’s Eye via the artist’s website at www.bellawhitemusic.com.

Rolling Stone included White in their Best Things We Saw roundup of AmericanaFest and she has spent this week captivating audiences in Austin during several appearances at SXSW including a slot at the Luck Reunion. Tonight, she will be appearing at the imogene + willie party. White is excited to announce new U.S. headline dates that include a stop in New York City on May 4.  She has also added dates in Europe and the UK and has confirmed appearances at major U.S. festivals throughout the spring and summer including Stagecoach, Merlefest, Telluride, Under The Big Sky, and more. All tour dates listed below.

White made her mark on the scene with the release of her debut album Just Like Leaving. The LP caught the attention of Rounder Records which signed her last year. While traditional bluegrass originated in Appalachia, the genre has surely found a safe and loving Canadian home via her songwriting. The 22-year-old singer/songwriter and instrumentalist shies away from modern and fussy arrangements, and instead brings a traditional style of music into the contemporary moment by personalizing it to her own experiences. White has shown herself to be a star student of the bluegrass genre, with something new to bring to the table. Her ability to translate modern experience to an old sound is seamless and compelling, and permeates the boundaries of a regional genre with authentic singing and songwriting.
