ALBUM RELEASE SHOW JULY 13 AT BAR CATHEDRAL TICKETS HERE

Toronto, ON – June 16, 2023 – Today, Toronto artist, Alex Exists, shares his anticipated debut album, Everybody’s Famous, via The Confidence Emperors. “[The album] is a unique set of stories about the complex and often absurd nature of human behaviour, and the need to express our truth and full potential,” says Alex. It’s the tension between these themes that fuel Everybody’s Famous and blends the rebellious, grungy, glammy, punky, and psychedelic sounds into an eight-track punch. Among these tracks is the album stand out, Mindful Madness, a song that explores the idea of maintaining a sense of awareness and purpose in the midst of chaos and confusion, and features the voice of Martha Johnson (Martha and the Muffins). As Alex puts it, “Her voice soars over the carnival grounds in such an eerily beautiful way.” Listen to Everybody’s Famous here and check out the Mindful Madness visualizer here.

To further celebrate the release of his debut record, Alex will be performing an album release show at Bar Cathedral on July 13 in Toronto. It will certainly be a show not to miss as Alex will bring Everybody’s Famous to life through his various music videos that will be on display at the venue, while playing the record live. Tickets available here.

On Mindful Madness, Alex shares: “With strong ties to struggling with mental illness and being on the brink of losing one's sanity. As the song unfolds, one begins to see the madness as a source of creativity and insight, rather than a burden to be ashamed of.”

On the album, Alex further offers: “I aim to inspire listeners to navigate the complex social dynamics that shape our lives, and to never stop striving for something better. The message is clear: we have the power to change what we don't like and the obligation to improve life for each other or else risk being trapped in the warped reality that these songs illustrate.”

Everybody’s Famous was produced mainly by Alex with assistance from Michael Fong. Drums were recorded at Revolution Recording in Toronto with Luke Schindler, and the rest of the tracks were recorded at Alex’s studio, Audio Ritual. The final product is a sonic exploration of expressing optimistic nihilism and radical authenticity as we tread into a brave new world. Alex quips the album resembles "a wrestling match with one’s ego." It represents a story about finding one’s true self amidst the chaos, continuing to create through the chaos while learning how to wield the energy of the changing tides instead of swimming against it - and letting it destroy you.

This can be heard on the previously released album standout Believe The Hype, which serves as a reminder for listeners not to believe everything you see or hear. As well, there is the dark prose, edgy synth, percussion heavy, With A Bangand Dancing With Chaoswhich features Alex's sharp vocals and deep lyrics on the state of the media, politics, and societal expectations. All videos were produced by Moon Reel Media, which Alex co-runs and co-founded, and were directed by Agata Waclawska.

“Collections of songs like albums are important snapshots in time. I think that it's a really admirable achievement to write, record and release an album in this day and age,” shares Alex. “I think the role of a great artist is to use their work to get deep inside someone's head or soul, rearrange all the furniture in their mind, and leave them seeing the world differently. Not knowing what really changed, other than experiencing the art, yet now they see everything differently. For better or for worse.”

Stay tuned as the Everybody’s Famous adventure continues on this summer!
