Troy touches on his inspiration behind 4U: “Nearly everybody has a special someone who you'd do anything and everything for and that's what inspired me. I approached 4U like a love poem that can be played for years to come. In the music video, it was so important that we show love of various forms and to not be afraid of showing our softer sides.”
The track also features vocals from LUVR, who Troy met during his time studying in the Music Business Management Program at Durham College. LUVR mentions, “4U is the kind of song that makes you want to fall in love. It holds a special place in my heart considering it allowed me to collaborate with my close friend, Troy. Having worked with Troy when I lived in Canada, we recorded this song and filmed the music video while on opposite sides of the world.”
The 4U video was directed by creative videographer, Darren Balgobin, aka The King Diverse (Saweetie, Saint Jhn, Riff Raff, Maxo Kream, Liane V), Toronto film maker now based in Los Angeles, California. He shot the scenes in Toronto, with the opening scene depicting the first couple with their newborn baby on his first birthday. The video then moves on to another couple moving into their first apartment together. Following these scenes, a new couple in a snow fight and the video concludes with a final couple who have been married for many years, and now reside in a nursing home together.
"My general objective with this project was to demonstrate the power of LOVE in the many different forms that it comes in,” shared The King Diverse. “I wanted to strategically cast our talent with the intention to display a range of diversity. I hope the universe is able to receive our message and help to inspire and produce MORE love within our world today. Love is the strongest force on the earth."
Troy moved from Prince Albert, Saskatchewan to Toronto, enrolling in Durham College, and achieving honour-roll status in the Music Business Management program – following his dreams in the music industry. Throughout his college years, Troy released two EPs (Time Capsule and Trilly Madison) and went on to play local events and campus house parties. He closed out 2019 by being featured in an Indigenous Songwriting camp, where he had a helping hand in creating So Close by Wolf Den – which charted at #5 on Sirius XM’s Indigenous Music Countdown. 4U is the final single to be released off of The Path following previously released tracks, We Up Ft. Thea May and Inhale Exhale ft. Joey Stylez.
