Toronto, ON – July 26, 2019 – Championed as one of North America’s first Grime emcees, Tre Mission releases his new studio album, Orphan Black today via Last Gang Records. Sharing an array of visuals to support the project’s singles leading up to the drop, Tre unveiled the video for title track, Orphan Black. Watch it here and listen to the album on all DSPs.
Orphan Black embodies Tre’s diverse influences, giving listeners an impressive cross section across genres, going beyond the Grime scene. The project follows Tre’s Bare Selection-released instrumental project, Bare Selection 001, and is his first full-length release since 2014’s JUNO and Polaris Music Prize-nominated Stigmata, and Tizzy Gang collaboration, Opps Next Door (2017). Orphan Black was produced by Tre and mastered by Toronto’s Freeza Chin, and features an array of guests, including Merky Ace on Sim Simma and EllzBS on Plus. The album highlights Tre at the production helm, fully focused and immersed in the creative process.
Tre introduced the record with the sensationally energetic and playful release of Hockey, and the darker introspective vibes from You Can Have. Following these previews with Hennessy Pool, Tre delved further in to the Trap world, solidifying the fact that the album explores every corner of his influence and give us an impressive cross section of it beyond any genre boundaries. Set against bold blood red and black backdrops, and cut away shots of Tre Mission performing to camera of the local streets, the visuals for Hennessy Pool sets the tone for the trappy, ominous beat and cautionary bars.
While making his impact on the UK music scene via the grime community as both an emcee and a producer, Tre Mission has always used his lyrical artistry over varying beats and tempos, and put them to practice alongside a slew of some of the world’s finest emcees, too. Opening for the likes of Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, Isaiah Rashad, Joey Badass, Earl Sweatshirt, Kaytranada, Tinie Tempah, Wiley and Skepta, he has also collaborated with Wiley, Skepta and JME for his album Stigmata, which went on to be nominated for a JUNO Rap Recording of the Year. His prolific productions have lent themselves to some of the UK’s biggest talents including Chip on Honestly ft. 67, Gets Like That & Mad With It, Jaykae Knock Door Run, Big Zuu on Manual, and Remember Remember, and even breakthrough singles for AJ Tracey on Luke Cage and Buster Cannon.
