TOURIST COMPANY SHARE POWERFUL MUSIC VIDEO FOR NEW SINGLE CONFLICTED/RESTRICTED

PREMIERES TODAY ON EXCLAIM.CA

PERFORMING IN TORONTO ON MARCH 22
AT THE HORSESHOE TAVERN

Toronto, ON – March 8, 2019 – Today, Vancouver alt-rock outfit, Tourist Company, share the powerful and heart-wrenching music video for their new single, Conflicted/Restricted. Premiering today with Exclaim.ca, the video follows a group of teenage boys through a series of events that will lead to a life-changing night. Watch the video here.

The video for Conflicted/Restricted was directed by Farhad Ghaderi and explores the idea of the inevitability of disaster – questioning whether tragedies are inevitable or not, and playing with the ambiguity of what seems to be a naïve and dangerous game between boys. Personally, I wanted to explore themes like toxic masculinity, and gun violence, and root them in within the social behaviours of teens in suburban North America,” comments Farhad. “The idea for this video is based on true events that happened to people I know on Vancouver Island. I believe it’s important to make art that pushes us to deal with real life situations that affect us. What leads to such a devastating event. Is it society? The way we educate our youth? Antiquated policy? A series of random events?”

“We wrote this song is about the tension of recognizing an impending disaster and being powerless to escape it,” the band reflects. “We shouldn’t have been surprised when this story became the narrative for the music video. Farhad's ability to convey emotion brought the meaning behind Conflicted/Restricted to the screen in a way that is tangible. When we watched the final video cut for the first time that tension was thick. Every decision we make and every second we live leads up to a moment when our lives can shift on an instant. So much of life is beyond our control and it’s easy to take things for granted.

Tourist Company released their debut album, Apollo, to critical acclaim in 2016 and toured the release relentlessly across their home country and internationally. The duo – comprised of Taylor Swindells and Brenon Perry – released their latest single, Conflicted/Restricted, in January – listen here. With a sound that seamlessly blends the electronic and the organic, Vancouver’s Tourist Company have carved out a sound that is defiantly all their own. Orchestral elements swell into a sea of synths, propelled along by rhythms that combine experimental with progressive. This duo of singer-songwriter/multi-instrumentalist, Taylor Swindells, and drummer, Brenon Parry, have steadily built a musical reputation that is impressing critics and winning fans worldwide.

Tourist Company will release a new album later this year, with details to come soon.
