ANNOUNCE ALBUM RELEASE SHOW LIVE AT THE HORSESHOE TAVERN OCTOBER 27

Toronto, ON – August 27, 2021 – Today, Toronto’s The Wilderness of Manitoba, release their latest single, Sometimes, from their forthcoming new album, Farewell To Cathedral, out October 29 (Popguru Sound & Vision). Listen to the hopeful, nostalgic and contemplative Sometimes here, and watch the stop motion, time lapsed video from director and creator, Maggie Gray, here. To further celebrate the album, the band will perform live at the Horseshoe Tavern on October 27 with special guest, Basset (ticket link and more information coming soon).

“The concept for the video was to depict an experience common to all of us, the process of grieving the end of relationship. Throughout this process our loss seems to haunt us until we are eventually able to find a sense of closure,” says Maggie. “In the video, Will is haunted by the physical items left behind, like her shoes and her toothbrush. I was able to weave together still images in the video to allow these inanimate objects to move and follow him as he went through his daily routines. Through time lapse photography I was able to show the passage of time and the transition from darkness to light as he moved into a sense closure and acceptance, finally being able to pack these items into a box and close the door.”

As for the song, it attempts to deal with and convey the perspective within a relationship that things don’t always run perfectly well, sometimes. There’s moods of apprehension and vulnerability, but also resilience and optimism.

“I think we might have a collective tendency at times to idealize and project certain expectations on each other due to how love is portrayed in various forms of media, film etc. and such factors can be entirely unrealistic,” says singer/multi-instrumentalist and founder, Will Whitwham. “That being said, I thought it might be fun to write a somewhat anti-love song in the folk tradition but also depict that despite the fact that there are inevitable letdowns and setbacks along the way, we ultimately only feel this way ‘sometimes.’ Pleasure and pain are both temporary and temperamental. In the end, we still choose to love the one we’re with.”

Sometimes was written by Will and friend, Marlon Rabenreither (Gold Star), in Los Angeles back in March 2019. “With little personal introduction outside of email, getting together and meeting for the first time can be a synchronistic and somewhat intuitively creative encounter for both parties and I’m thankful that we ended up going into the musical direction that we did,” adds Will.

Stay tuned for more from The Wilderness of Manitoba as the story of Farewell To Cathedral unfolds this fall.

About The Wilderness of Manitoba:
In its twelve-year existence, the Wilderness of Manitoba’s strengths come as a direct result of the wealth of traveling and playing the group has done. They have played the End of the Road Festival and Peter Gabriel’s WOMAD Festival in the UK and toured the UK, US, Netherlands, Canada and Germany with such artists as Aimee Mann, Lord Huron and Other Lives among others. “The live show,” says Whitwham, “is an in-the-moment portrait of the band and its efforts.” Those efforts were recognized when the Wilderness of Manitoba was nominated for a JUNO and two Canadian Folk Music Awards. Summing things up, Whitwham says, “My eventual hope is that we are able to embark on a proper live tour of the Farewell To Cathedral album in 2021 or 2022 after the much more serious matter of taking care of each other and ourselves as we move out of the pandemic.”

The Wilderness of Manitoba is:
Will Whitwham (singer/multi-instrumentalist)
Victoria Carr (vocals and acoustic guitar)
Tavo Diez de Bonilla (bass and vocals)
Adam Balsam (drums, vocals, guitar and keyboards)
