Toronto, ON – June 13, 2017 – Drake, Sia, Maroon 5, Nelly Furtado, Tina Turner, Jason Mraz, Selena Gomez, Jessie J, Shawn Mendes, James Blunt, Andra Day, Olly Murs, Rachel Platten, The Arkells, Ricky Martin, Dua Lipa, Andy Grammer. Just some of the notable names that members of The Philosopher Kings have written for or produced since their last album; an unprecedented acclaim for a Canadian group.

The Philosopher Kings took the Canadian music industry by storm with their infectious melodies, undeniable energy and a unique combination of pop and alternative rock. Now, the Kings are back with their brand new single, Still The One. Set for release on June 30th, the track will appear on the band’s forthcoming fifth studio album, Return of The Kings, which is due out later this year. The band will be performing a special invite-only show for media, friends and family, at the Mod Club in Toronto, on Tuesday, June 20th, to preview some of the new songs and old favourites. If you are a member of the media, please contact amanda@indoorrecess.com to RSVP.

The band’s recording career began with its self-titled debut in 1994, which spawned the hit single, Charms, with the album eventually earning Gold status in Canada. Winning a Juno Award in 1996 for Best New Group and landing on the U.S. Top 40 chart that same year with Charms, the band criss-crossed the country, becoming one of the most sought after and popular live acts on the circuit. Their commercial, critical and popular breakthrough occurred with the release of their second album, Famous, Rich and Beautiful in 1997, which was certified Platinum.

A newlywed with hit records on the radio, bras being thrown on stage, and five diverse personalities telling me how to sing…” says front man Gerald Eaton. “It was a very overwhelming time in my life. I needed to step away to find the real Gerald Eaton. Everyone was burnt out.”

Fast forward to 2017, The Philosopher Kings have reunited with a renewed energy, revitalized focus – and brand new material. Fans of the band will get a chance to once again hear the eminently memorable, groove-infused songs that made them a live event favourite, including I Am the Man, Charms, Hurts to Love You, and Castles in the Sand, along with some new favourites.

As busy and fulfilled as they are with their individual careers, the call from fans to return to The Philosopher Kings fold could no longer be resisted and the band members are thrilled to be able to bring their songs, their superior showmanship and their high-octane, invigorating live shows to stages worldwide. “This is the best we’ve sounded,” said keyboardist, Jon Levine. The Kings are back.
