FROM UPCOMING FULL-LENGTH ALBUM LIFE AFTER SET FOR RELEASE ON OCTOBER 22

TORONTO, ON – September 24, 2021 – With one month left to go until the release of their new full-length album, Life After, award-winning Vancouver hip-hop duo, Snotty Nose Rez Kids, today release the record’s next single – No Jesus Piece.

One of the first songs recorded for the new album, No Jesus Piece took shape in 2020, not long after COVID restrictions came in to full effect. With the sudden loss of touring and much of their plans for the year grinding to a halt, SNRK managed to get some recording in. The track sat as a demo for the remainder of the year and into the first half of 2021. Once Life After was being pieced together, the band found it suited well with the album and continued working on the track.

The song is about SNRK – ignoring the critics around them, betting on themselves and not stressing about external pressure to be anything other than themselves. The duo have seen some fans of their first two albums criticize them for embracing trap, experimenting with autotune, and developing their sound, but SNRK want to continue to evolve and are going to keep making the music they want to make, and put faith in themselves that the fans are going to appreciate what they continue to create. The more upbeat nature of the lyrics reflects when they wrote this song. Written early in COVID times in 2020, the duo hadn't yet dealt with everything that ultimately led them to creating Life After – no suicides, family struggles, uncovering of mass graves at residential schools, loneliness and isolation of COVID and depression.

The title – No Jesus Piece – is a reference to the duo embracing their own spiritual symbols. While they respect people for having their own religions and religious symbols, for Yung Trybez and Young D, they'd rather rock their Copper Shield. “The Catholic church and the government of Canada used Catholicism as a tool of annihilation of Indigenous culture, practice, teachings and ways of being,” the band comments. SNRK identify the connections between the importance of putting their faith in a sacred metal: copper or the 'copper shield.'

With Young D producing the beat on the track, No Jesus Piece marks his third production credit for the band (Peaks and Valleys and Something Else). Young D spent much of his time in quarantine developing his producing skills and produced five songs off the upcoming album. The video was directed and edited by Vancouver-based, director, Sterling Larose, who SNRK have tapped for all of their music videos for this album (Uncle Rico, Something Else). The video takes Yung Trybez and Young D on a kaleidoscope of visuals in different TV formats. If SNRK took over your television, it might look something like this!
