ROBERT GLASPER RETURNS TO BLUE NOTE FALL RESIDENCY; 66 SHOWS ACROSS 33 NIGHTS ON SALE NOW

TORONTO, ON – October 7, 2021 – 4x Grammy Award-winning artist and producer, Robert Glasper, has released his new single, Shine, featuring Inglewood, CA natives, D Smoke and Tiffany Gouché. This release is his first since a strong 2021 Grammy showing, nominated for Best Progressive R&B Album and taking home Best R&B Song for Better Than I Imagined, featuring H.E.R. With lyrics that express gratitude and evoke a rise-up spirit, Shine arrives as yet another glimpse into Glasper’s highly anticipated third installment to the Black Radio album series. Black Radio 3, much like both of its predecessors, is a cultural moment that celebrates black love and resilience.

This past September, during Robert’s recent residency at The Kennedy Center, D Smoke joined him on stage for a comfortable yet spontaneous performance. Further solidifying a creative bond shared between the two, the official music video for Shine is also available today. Directed by TL Benton, and also shot at The Kennedy Center, the video beautifully captures the energy of the performing musicians and accompanies the message of the track in an authentic visual element.

About the collaboration, Robert says, "I was so happy to collaborate with D Smoke on this song. He's definitely one of the leading voices in today’s new generation of hip hop. He has his feet planted in the soil of real music and comes from a family of amazing musicians and artists. That being said, also shout out to Tiffany Gouché, his cousin who’s on the song as well. We want to see everybody shine."

As a precursor to the upcoming album, from October 1 to November 7, Glasper is returning to the world famous Blue Note Jazz Club in NYC for his third fall residency and another unprecedented run, performing 66 shows across 33 nights. In 2018, Glasper became just the 4th musician to hold a month-long residency at Blue Note, joining a short list that includes jazz legends Dizzy Gillespie, Chick Corea and Chris Botti. The residency, highlighted in the New York Times, proclaims that Glasper is “probably the most prominent jazz musician of his generation” and is frequented by unannounced special guests such as Dave Chappelle, Kanye West, Chris Rock, Questlove, Jill Scott, Common, Talib Kweli and Yebba.

Shine is out now on Loma Vista Recordings and is another installment from the Black Radio 3 project, coming in early 2022.

ABOUT ROBERT GLASPER
Robert Glasper is a premiere example of musical aptitude and a proven champion of Black music - boasting nine Grammy nominations and four wins for Best R&B Album, Best R&B Song, Best Traditional R&B Performance, and Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media, and an Emmy Award for his song for Ava Duvernay’s critically hailed documentary “13th” with Common and Karriem Riggins. The 43-year old Houston native has a rich history contributing his artistry across both music and film, all the while carrying a consistent cultural message. In 2012, Glasper delivered his album Black Radio that hit the scene as the first album in history to debut in the top 10 of 4 different genre charts simultaneously: Hip Hop R&B, Urban Contemporary, Jazz and Contemporary Jazz. The feat was then repeated by Black Radio 2. The ongoing Black Radio series has since become Glasper’s calling card, upholding a place at the heart of a trailblazing community: from long-time sonic brothers Mos Def and Bilal, to legends including Ledisi, Lupe Fiasco, Kanye West, Jill Scott, and Erykah Badu.
