Toronto, ON – November 20, 2020 – BC-born, Toronto-based Indigenous electro-pop trailblazers, Once A Tree (led by Jayli and Hayden Wolf), share Fool’s Paradise today, an EP of reclamation, falling in love against the odds, eliminating toxic energy, and slowing down to enjoy life’s simple pleasures. The EP follows Once A Tree’s 2018 Indigenous Music Award-winning, Phoenix, and is inspired by their personal journeys that have led them to their success. Listen to Fool’s Paradise here.

Embodying an upbeat, hopeful vibe, the transition from Phoenix to Fool’s Paradise sonically captures moving through darkness into the light, as this project reflects a newfound sense of joy. Once A Tree wrote most of the album in Los Angeles, and while they have written their music independently since inception, this project highlights more of a collaborative effort. Once A Tree’s latest single, 3 Day Trip, imagines the journey of its title, keeping gratitude top of mind. Prior to 3 Day Trip Once A Tree teamed up with Toronto artist, Boy Pape, for an acoustic remix of their track, Rush, who added a signature verse to compliment the meditative and reflective vibe of the song. From their pivotal experience in The Remix Project to extensive resumes that include Hayden’s music production credits, Jayli’s acting career, mentoring Indigenous youth and connecting with their community, Once A Tree defines ‘multidisciplinary.’ Their music is also a part of soundtracks for recent TIFF features, Beans and Trickster, where Jayli has a feature role. Jayli will also star in The Exchange, a film by Director Dan Mazer (Borat) and writer, Tim Long (The Simpsons), set for release in 2021. Hayden’s passion for visual storytelling includes a four-year role as Senior Photographer for Drake’s OVO Brand, where he led visual content creation, and while he is at the helm for producing Once A Tree’s music, graphics to music videos, he is also working as a producer on Boy Pape’s new album, and Jayli’s forthcoming solo project. In addition, Hayden was behind the lens to create the cover art for Toronto singer renforshort’s EP, Teenage Angst.

About Once A Tree
Once A Tree is a Toronto-based Indigenous electronic music duo comprised of BC-born Hayden and Jayli Wolf. They are multidisciplinary artists that combine an array of skills, vision and DIY work ethic to blaze their own path. They released their debut album, Phoenix, in November 2017 (winning Best Electronic Album of the Year at the 2018 Indigenous Music Awards) and met while leaving the doomsday religion they were both raised in. Excommunicated by their community, they decided to use music as their voice.
The duo began writing folk music in a small valley town near the Canadian Rockies. When Jayli won a songwriting competition, the two were flown to Toronto to shoot a music video. They arrived in the city with two suitcases and a guitar; looking for a fresh start and determined to pursue their dreams. After relocating to Toronto, Hayden was accepted into The Remix Project, where he was able to hone his music production skills. The two began to evolve their sound, infusing mellow beats with dream pop melodies. To date, Once A Tree has released numerous singles received to critical acclaim, including Whatever You Do Kid, What You Say, Run, Worth, Born For This, Coming Down and more.
