Toronto, ON – June 28, 2022 – MMF Canada is thrilled to announce the launch of the new Trailblazer Award, recognizing Canadian managers or self-managed artists who are carving new paths within the industry landscape. The recipient of the award will be celebrated during the annual MMF Canada Honour Roll Awards, taking place both in-person in Toronto and online in the fall. Nominations for the Trailblazer Award are now open, with MMF Canada members encouraged to put forth deserving candidates (including themselves) for consideration. The nomination deadline is Sunday, July 24 at 11:59 p.m. PST. Guidelines and the nomination form can be found here.

"The entire music industry has shown their creativity, perseverance and resilience through the challenges and opportunities presented over the last couple of years,” reflects Amie Therrien, Executive Director, MMF Canada. “We wanted to find a way to celebrate people working in music management who exemplify those traits and are doing something unique that is driving the industry forward whether they've been in the business for two or 20 years. Opening up nominations to all MMF Canada members is different from how we've done things in the past but is crucial to ensuring we hear about people doing great work from across the country, from various backgrounds, in all genres, and from all experience levels."

The MMF Canada Honour Roll, now in its 15th year, is a flagship event in the industry calendar. The annually sold-out event brings together the award recipients and their guests, with past honourees, MMF’s Board of Directors, and other industry personnel, to celebrate the achievements of Canadian music managers and self-managed artists. Along with the newly introduced Trailblazer Award is the Honour Roll Award, which recognizes a Canadian music manager for outstanding career achievements; the Brian Chater Builder Award, which celebrates those who have had significant impact in building the Canadian music industry; and the Banner Year Award, which honours the success of an artist and their management for an exceptional year.

Additionally, MMF Canada opens the call for nominations to its Board of Directors. Eight of the 12 seats are up for election this year, with four directors being elected to full three-year terms, and four directors to two-year terms, in order to allow for the organization to get back into an equal rotation after updating the length of terms last year. More information about the board and how to submit a nomination can be found here.

The past few years have seen the 25-year-old organization grow in significant and meaningful ways. In addition to hiring an Executive Director and several staff, MMF Canada launched the Bespoke Mntrship Program, as well as multiple programs, including webinars, masterclasses, and networking events, both online and in-person on international platforms. MMF Canada will also be launching a fresh spin on the in-person Honour Roll Awards event in 2022.

“The board for the last two years has been the most diverse ever,” says Board Chair, Helen Britton. “The variety of voices at the table have a huge impact in strategic planning, priorities, advocacy, board, staff and membership training activities, and the overall growth and direction of the organization. We want to continue this work and are looking for a strong slate of nominees to take us into the next phase of the organization.”
