MIPSO’S NEW ALBUM IS RELEASED TODAY

VIRTUAL CONCERT EVENT “THE MIPSO SHOW (VOL 1)” SLATED FOR OCTOBER 29 & TICKET SALES TO BENEFIT MORE THAN 30 INDEPENDENT MUSIC VENUES IN NORTH AMERICA

Toronto, ON – October 16, 2020 – Today, Chapel Hill-based quartet, Mipso, – a stalwart of North Carolina’s independent music community for close to a decade – released, Mipso, their debut recording for Rounder.  For Mipso, the band collaborated with producer Sandro Perri toward the goal of shaping a sonic landscape that is expansive and atmospheric yet also personal. The album, which is the follow-up to 2018’s acclaimed Edges Run, is already earning critical praise.

The album was featured in NPR Music’s All Songs Considered New Music Friday: The Top 10 Albums Out Oct. 16. Critic Ann Powers noted “they’re really going beyond the frame of any genre on this record,” while Robin Hilton singled out their “perfect harmonies,” and said the album felt like “an instruction manual for how to be happy.” He concluded his remarks by saying, “It just felt good listening to this one.”

Writing in No Depression, Corbie Hill lauded the album’s “precise four-way harmonies, whip-smart arrangements, and an ever-broadening set of timbres,” while INDY Week’s Spencer Griffith called it “Mipso’s richest album yet.”

PopMatters’ Michael Bialas declared, “Mipso seems like a band that will never run out of ideas.” And as Andy Crump observed in Paste, “Prevailing warmth defines Mipso’s sound, the kind felt on a bright North Carolina day, but the songs themselves follow their own directions: Gentle strums on love tunes, big uplifting choruses on countrified numbers, plucking strings on upbeat bluegrass songs. Mipso’s creativity…is on full display here.”

Earlier this week, the band announced “The Mipso Show (Vol 1),” a one-night only virtual concert experience that will stream live on Thursday, October 29, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. PDT/ 8:00 p.m. EDT, and will feature Mipso performing new material, fan favorites, and more.  Event tickets are priced at $6.00, with limited edition merchandise bundles available at higher price points.  Each ticket purchase includes on-demand access for 48 hours post event.  Tickets available now at mipsomusic.com.

The four members of Mipso – Wood Robinson, Libby Rodenbough, Jacob Sharp, and Joseph Terrell – deeply concerned about the looming crisis independent music venues are facing as the pandemic-related lockdown goes into its eighth month – decided to partner with over 30 venues across North America to help host this event. $5.00 of every ticket sold will go directly to support venue partners (a full list is below).

Mipso has released four official videos from this album. Listen/watch here: Hourglass, Let A Little Light In, Hey, Coyote and Your Body.
