MILOE SHARES COVER OF LOUS AND THE YAKUZA’S SOLO IN HONOUR OF CONGOLESE INDEPENDENCE DAY

GREENHOUSE EP OUT NOW

Early praise for Miloe:

“The darkness of Minnesota winters contrasts with his youth, and his new EP Greenhouse aims to bring some sunshine to his current home” - NPR Music, All Songs Considered

“blissed out” “shoegaze-pop rumination” - The FADER

"bright, shoegaze delight" - NYLON

"Miloe’s reach exceeds the suburban backyard, elsewhere capturing the travelogue of his youth in finger plucks and gently swaying piano" - MTV

"With only five tracks, [Greenhouse] showcases Miloe’s seemingly almost effortless knack for melodies and simple, yet captivating instrumentals that make the project as a whole undeniable. Not much is known about what’s on Miloe’s docket for 2021, but consider us excited for whatever that may be" - UPROXX

"lovely...smooth pop number" - DORK

Toronto, ON – June 30, 2021 – Miloe—a.k.a. Bob Kabeya, 20-year-old Minneapolis artist by way of The Democratic Republic of Congo—released his incredible EP, entitled Greenhouse, to acclaim from the likes of NPR Music, The Fader, MTV, NYLON, Uproxx and more. Born in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Bob Kabeya moved to the U.S. with his family at the age of eight to reunite with his father, a journalist who was granted asylum three years prior. Today, in honour of Congolese Independence Day and in celebration of Black Music Appreciation Month, Miloe shares a cover of fellow Congolese artist Lous and the Yakuza’s song Solo. Listen to the cover, all in French, now here and read more about the cover from Bob below.

“SOLO is a song by the amazing Congolese/Belgian artist Lous and The Yakuza. She’s stated that she wrote the song thinking about the loneliness that our people and Black People at large face feel due to systemic racism and the effects of colonization. The Democratic Republic of Congo gained its independence from Belgium on June 30th 1960 - that wasn’t very long ago. I would argue that colonization continues to this day through the extraction of natural resources by western corporations, which directly benefits those of us privileged enough to live in the west. Black people and black women especially have to scream and fight just to receive empathy from this world. The lyrics that resonated with me the most are: “Se battre jusqu'à la muerte (eh) / Parce qu’on a trop fierté” Despite what we face, we are not defined in our trauma. There is so much pride and love for our culture and our people, which will always fuel us in the fight for our humanity.”

Greenhouse is an exhilaratingly energetic and youthful homage to Summer and the weather patterns of his childhood, paired with lyrics of teenage melodrama and idealism. "The Minnesotan climate can feel so limiting compared to where I grew up, almost like we're waiting half the year to actually live our lives,” he explains. Living in a region that faces harsh winter for much of the year, and in 2020 served as ground zero for uprisings against police violence, Kabeya created Greenhouse as an offering of sunshine to his community as winter returned.
