LAILA BIALI HITS THE ROAD THIS SUMMER

TOURING THE FESTIVAL CIRCUIT
ACROSS CANADA

TAKES HOME 2019 JUNO AWARD FOR
VOCAL JAZZ ALBUM OF THE YEAR

Toronto, ON – May 16, 2019 – Award-winning singer-songwriter and pianist, Laila Biali, has been having a banner 2019 already, and she’s showing no signs of slowing down! Following a stellar week at the 2019 JUNO Awards in London, ON –  where she hosted and performed at the JUNOfest Jazz Showcase, shared songs and stories at the JUNO Songwriters’ Circle, took to the stage for the award-show after-party, Playlist Live, and to cap it all off, brought home her very first JUNO Award for Vocal Jazz Album of the Year – Laila is pleased to get back out on the road for the summer festival circuit.

Laila will grace stages across Canada this summer, with shows in Ontario, Manitoba, BC, Alberta and Quebec, sharing songs from her catalogue, and treating audiences to a taste of some of the new music that she has been working on. Full details can be found below.

“It was an absolute thrill to win my first JUNO earlier this year!” says Laila. “Since that moment, I’ve been cooking up some brand new material to take back into the studio. We’ll be test driving a few of these new songs alongside the JUNO-winning album, plus the Canadian Songbook, as we hit the festival circuit this summer. I can’t wait to get back out on the road!

Laila Biali has toured with Chris Botti, Paula Cole, Suzanne Vega and Sting. She has headlined festivals and venues spanning five continents including Carnegie Hall. Her accolades include a 2019 JUNO win for Vocal Jazz Album of the Year, first prize in the 2018 Canadian Songwriting Competition (Jazz), and SOCAN Composer of the Year and Keyboardist of the Year at Canada’s National Jazz Awards. In September of 2017, Laila was brought on as the host for CBC Music’s national radio show, Saturday Night Jazz. While she continues to earn high honours in the Jazz world, Laila’s unique genre-bending sound is what sets her apart, as she "masterfully mixes jazz and pop, bringing virtuosity and unpredictability to songs that are concise and catchy.” (Washington Post)
