TORONTO, ON – November 1, 2021 – At the end of the video for 2004’s Man I Used To Be, k-os vanishes in to outer space. Now, 17 years later, he has returned to earth, picking up the story where it left off, in the brand new video for HOT BOY. Premiering officially yesterday – aptly on Halloween – with Complex, the video is a fantasy-fuelled saga, following k-os and KAGE E on an adventure of epic proportions. Watch here.

HOT BOY sees k-os reuniting with director, Drew Lightfoot, who directed the videos for Sunday Morning and 4321, and references sci-fi touchstones from the bike scenes in Steven Spielberg’s E.T., to the James Spader-starring Stargate. Filmed in Vancouver, the video also features HOT BOY collaborator, KAGE E, who k-os brought in for the shoot, and to experience the Vancouver “magic hour” for the first time.

“I haven't shot a video in Vancouver since Top of the World with the Rascalz featuring Barrington Levy,” reflects k-os. “If you just point and shoot out here, there's natural beauty everywhere, including the people. I really wanted KAGE E to experience the magic of Vancouver, as it blew me away when I had my first adventure here, especially the intangible vibe at nighttime. Drew Lightfoot and Devin Karringtem captured the eventide beautifully.”

“It was surreal!” adds KAGE E. “Everything happened so fast but I definitely captured every moment and it was super great getting to meet K-OS and everyone involved. He was a huge influence on me and it was sick to be able to work on the video with him!  We were doing something every second and ended up shooting right after I landed. Much love to everyone involved and shout-out to K-OS!”

k-os and KAGE E met and struck up a friendship after the 16-year-old Toronto-based up-and-comer sent k-os a “genuine heartfelt compliment” on Instagram. “He sent me a song called Searchin that I loved,” says k-os. “I wrote a song called Searchin years ago, so the title alone pulled me in. We’re in the same zone lyrically.”

The two connected and formed a dynamic duo of sorts. KAGE E says, “There’s definitely a Batman/Robin vibe going on. We even had the Batmobile for the (video) shoot!”. k-os adds, “I’ve been looking for my Robin for a minute. But Robin has to have both confidence and humility to be a good partner to Batman and that’s a hard combo to come by. Finally found it… or rather, it found me.”

HOT BOY follows k-os’ two latest singles: the dance-floor ready, SUPERNOVAS and his unique take on The Cars’, Just What I Needed. Exclaim! Magazine listed the song as one of the best in their 2021, The Year of the Cover feature. k-os’ last two singles had support from Complex, CBC, Exclaim!, ET Canada, and Strombo.

k-os started his career in 2002, with the release of Exit on Virgin/EMI Canada. He has two Platinum certified albums in Canada for Joyful Rebellion (2004) and Atlantis: Hymns for Disco (2006), and one Platinum Certified video, Publicity Stunt (2004), and has had several songs on the charts, including three Top 10 singles: Crabbuckit, Sunday Morning and The Man I Used to Be. k-os is the featured vocalist on The Chemical Brothers’ single, Get Yourself High (2003), and has collaborated with Drake, Broken Social Scene, Feist, DFA 1979 and Kaytranada.
