“The West Virginia road warrior finally gets his due” - Garden & Gun

“Miller has a world-class talent for sprinkling in subtle moments of profound truth and beauty throughout his story-rich, slice-of-American-life lyricism.” - American Songwriter

Toronto, ON – June 11, 2021 - Emerging singer-songwriter and guitarist, John R. Miller, released his new track, Coming Down, which will feature on his debut album, Depreciatedreleased July 16 on historic record label, Rounder Records. Miller is already gaining early tastemaker attention, including Rolling Stone which described Miller’s songwriting as “haunting and compelling," Consequence of Sound which claimed “Miller is at the peak of his songwriting powers” and Relix which stated, “The Nashville-based artist is a gifted, evocative songwriter who revisits his West Virginia youth on the 11 original compositions.”

His growing support continues with Coming Down, which premiered today with Garden & Gun“The West Virginia road warrior finally gets his due,” Garden & Gun stated, adding, “The song’s enduring popularity is a testament to the way Miller’s songwriting captures a relatable kind of loneliness—the feeling that you’ve left a piece of yourself behind.”

The track is inspired by Miller’s fifteen years on the road as a travelling musician and addresses the feeling of being in limbo and trying to find some sort of grounding. Discussing the track, Miller stated, “We talk about home as if it can be simply found on a map. When you eventually lose the place or people to which you’re anchored, it can feel like you’re falling without a net; the only way to start climbing again might be to hit the ground.”

The song is also a favorite of Tyler Childers, who covered the track on his live album Tyler Childers Live on Red Barn Radio I & II and has been known to perform the song from time to time in concert. Coming Down is one of two covers Childers has recorded that has been released on an album/EP.

Depreciated blends a vast array of classic sounds from countrypolitan and swamp rock to the Tulsa sound, which attracted multiple-Grammy nominee Justin Francis (Leon Bridges, Kacey Musgraves, Margo Price) and renowned guitarist, Adam Meisterhans, to produce the album. Miller was signed after a moment of industry serendipity: another producer walked past the studio where Francis was mixing the album, and was so impressed with what he heard that he passed the music on to an A&R person for Concord. Depreciated was recorded at the legendary Studio A of Sound Emporium in Nashville. Miller was ably backed on the sessions by Meisterhans, who contributed guitar and production; co-producer Francis on congas and Wurlitzer, Chloe Edmonstone offering a plaintive fiddle, John Looney on mandolin, Jonathan Beam providing bass, Russ Pahl’s shimmery pedal steel, John Clay on drums, and Robbie Crowell playing the Wurlie and Hammond B3.

Miller recently announced summer tour dates throughout July and August. He will tour across the U.S. including shows in Indianapolis, Lexington, Nashville, and Charleston, where he will perform a Mountain Stage concert that will be broadcast by NPR. On-sale dates and additional shows to be announced shortly.
