JOHN ORPHEUS SHARES VIDEO FOR PARACHUTE

FIRST SINGLE FROM FORTHCOMING EP GOATLIFE OUT JUNE 29

ONTARIO SHOWS ANNOUNCED

Toronto, ON – June 15, 2018 –  As we head into the summer and beckon the start of Carnival season in North America, Toronto duo, John Orpheus, shares the visuals for Parachute. It is the first single from their forthcoming mixtape, GOATLIFE, set for release on June 29. The group will be sharing the music on stages across North America, Europe and Africa this year, kicking things off with shows in Ontario, headlining Kitchener-Waterloo Multicultural Festival, and their album launch show at Luanda House in Toronto on June 29. See below for complete details, and watch the video for Parachute here.

"Goats aren't afraid to be themselves and neither are we,” John Orpheus says of the track. “GOATLIFE is what Sarah, Chaenel and I have been building towards for 2 years. It's everything we adore: AUTHENTIC, FUN and JIGGY AF."

Parachute is a send up of the 90s-Dancehall classic. It flows fluidly from rap verses, to Caribbean slang to a soft buttery chorus, all over a banging Dancehall rhythm.  The video was directed, shot and edited by Patrick Hodgson of Kicking Tire Films, and filmed between a mansion in Mississauga, Growing Hope Farm in Cambridge, Art Square Cafe (across from the AGO) and Cherry Beach. GOATLIFE is the culmination of two years of developing sound and building energy.

GOATLIFE is the culmination of two years of developing sound and building energy. The fourth and final mixtape in a series that established a sound equal parts Hip-Hop, Afropop and Dancehall, the tape finds J.O. and his swaggy Trinidadian drawl at its best. Filled with dancefloor ready jams and sing along anthems, it fulfills the promise of earlier mixtapes with a noticeably more pop and upbeat vibe. See below for a complete track list.

Produced by Mike Schlosser at Little Noise Records, and written by J.O., with Afro rhythms laid down by partner in crime, Sarah Jane Riegler, the team has perfected its cocktail of fun, dance-ability and catchiness. Embrace the vibes of Parachute and stay tuned for more vibrant sounds.

About John Orpheus
John Orpheus is a Trini Troubadour and Pan-African poet whose musical journey has taken him from the Trinidad bush, to blues and folk festivals across Canada, and to some of the biggest rock & roll stages in the world. Born and raised in South-Central Trinidad, J.O. grew up singing in Pentecostal and Shango Baptist churches. After attending the famed Presentation College in the same year as legendary Soca singer, Machel Montano, he immigrated to Canada where he soon became fully immersed in the music industry, and studied English and Literature at the University of Waterloo.

His current musical iteration with his musical soulmate, DJ/drummer, Sarah Jane Riegler, combines Hip-Hop swagger, the energy of Afrobeat and Dancehall charisma to create a sound built on big catchy hooks, African rhythms and Caribbean twang. The duo is known for rabble-rousing live showsfilled with audience participation, chanting and impromptu dance offs that feel more like Caribana road parties than concerts. The pair aspires to conquer the world with their internationalist ideas of fun, freedom and positive energy, often showcased through their traveling event series, Haus Orpheus, combining live performances, DJ sets, spoken word, and local vendors.

In 2017, the crew dropped three mixtapes in seven months, each built on the themes of pan-Africanism, intersectional feminism and a fashion forward aesthetic: the downtempo manifest,  Goldchain Hennessey, the Carnival fete-infused Bacchanal, and the Canada/Nigeria/Ghana collaboration, Black Star Rising. Each mixtape was launched with a successful video and single featuring collaborations with Toronto’s freshest dancers and videographers: Leanin, Jiggy AF and Wey Ya Call Dat Ting? (respectively).
