TORONTO, ON – October 22, 2021 – Following the release of his debut solo single, Cheap Whisky, Toronto alt-pop rocker, Jay Feelbender (Goodbye Honolulu, Luna Li, Creep Creep Beach and HeadSpace), returns with a brand new track, entitled Dirty Lovin'. The slow-burn, strummy acoustic tune is an ode to finding light through the darkness. Listen here and bask in the neon glow of the mesmerizing video here

"When I wrote Dirty Lovin’ it was near the beginning of the pandemic," Jay shares. "I was going through one of the worst moments of my life in terms of my mental health, and the fact that the world was also going through one of the collectively darkest moments in my lifetime, didn’t help. Being trapped inside, unable to see friends or family was especially hard. Luckily I was isolating with my girlfriend of 7 years Hannah (Luna Li) and she was my saving grace. Seeing her every day, writing music together and creating along-side one another was one of the only positives for me at that time. Feeling in a total pit of darkness but having her as this light inspired the song."

Of the video, Jay explains, "When I was brainstorming video ideas for Dirty Lovin’ The first image that came to my mind was a glowing neon forest of flowers, juxtaposed against the darkness. I reached out to artist Jack Harrison - he does amazing work with VHS and animation video art. We talked about the idea and he brought on his friend Elisa Chiocca D’Alfonso as artistic director and to design the flowers. Jack and Elisa built upon my concept to create a neon world that I could inhabit. Isla from Heavy Flow made me this incredible suit to wear for the video made of entirely repurposed fabric. I love that I had something special and unique to wear. We filmed the video in one day (and night) in High Park. I’m super proud of what we were able to create with this awesome team of people."

Dirty Lovin' is the second release from Jay's upcoming solo record and marks a departure from his typical DIY approach to making music.

"Most of my solo music, before this project, has been very DIY home recording type stuff; I did every aspect of it myself," reflects Jay. "For this new work, I wanted to evolve from that. I still wrote everything myself but I wanted to explore recording in a studio and working with a producer that I trusted with my vision. I had the chance to work with Braden Sauder at Marquee Sound and I’m so happy with how everything turned out. Sonically, I think this  new music is a huge step forward for me."

Jay Feelbender (alias of Toronto based musician Jacob Switzer) is the alt-pop glow-up of your dreams. Though newly flying solo as Jay Feelbender, he has been sharpening his skills in many bands since early 2012 such as Goodbye Honolulu, Luna Li, Creep Creep Beach and HeadSpace.

Jay himself is an amalgamation of many influences. First, growing up in the Toronto folk-country scene as the child of a musician (Shirley temples at the bar and naps behind the drum kit). Then entering high school and forming rock band Creep Creep Beach with a group of friends (practicing in the garage and shows at DIY venues). With some of those same people, creating what is now the alt-rock band Goodbye Honolulu (performing for thousands opening for Spanish rock band Hinds on U.S tours and touring Canada along side Luna Li). Now, Jay Feelbender draws on all the influences, from childhood to now, that have shaped his musical and personal identity.

Jay’s music paints a portrait of the journey throughout an artist’s young life. From the fun to the fragile, the introspective to the explosive, Jay feels it all.
