HELLO MOTH ON TOUR IN WESTERN CANADA THIS FALL

BRAND NEW EP NEBULA SONGS TO BE RELEASED ON OCTOBER 13th TO KICK OFF TOUR

Toronto, ON – September 14, 2017 –
On October 13th, Calgary’s Hello Moth will release a brand new collection of tracks, entitled Nebula Songs. The EP release will mark the start of a Western Canadian tour that will take him through Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta (full details below). Have a listen to Take This Away for a taste of the EP’s infectious sound, and the captivating performance that Hello Moth will bring to Canadian stages this fall.

When I construct my songs in front of new audiences I like to treat the performance as a chance to be understood, to communicate directly," says Hello Moth. "Every part of the performance is looped live, so I get to portray each sonic component in a raw and real way for my listeners. You’ll never see me more myself than when I’m on stage, and it's always a thrill to sing my songs for new people on tour.

He continues, "When I wrote these new songs, it was my first time using the softer sounds of a modern synthesizer as opposed to the brittle and pointy character of the vintage instrument with which I launched my career. I thought the new synth sounded fluffy, like clouds but colourful, like a nebula. That's why I call these my Nebula Songs."

Hello Moth started by playing open mics around Calgary and quickly developed a reputation as one of the city’s most innovative performers thanks to his novel hybridization of electronic music and poetic song. Through his unorthodox style, he has achieved success locally and beyond: 2013’s debut album Infinitely Repeated was nominated for Best Electronic Record at the WCMAs, he provided direct support to St. Vincent at Sled Island 2014, performed at TEDxYYC 2015, was declared “the weirdest, most underrated, most original and unabashedly true-to-self performer on the Rifflandia lineup, hands down” by Exclaim! in 2016, and was one of a select few Canadian artists selected to showcase at the prestigious Great Escape Festival in the UK in 2017. Hello Moth is also the producer behind the platinum pop hit, Jackpot, which he co-wrote with singer Jocelyn Alice.

His latest offering, Slave In A Stone, was released in November 2016. CBC dubbed the album, “frenetic, weird and all kinds of exciting … the kind of innovative music-making that keeps the future of Canadian music looking bright”, and the video for lead single, A Song About Transcience, was awarded Best Music Video at the 2017 AMPIA Rosie Awards. The record was written, recorded and produced by Hello Moth, and includes an adaptation of By the Waters of Babylon by 18th century composer Philip Hayes. Otherworldly themes run through the album’s lyrics, sung over looped and layered instrumentals that sound much bigger than what one person could seem to produce on their own.
