TO BE RELEASED FOR RECORD STORE DAY’S
2020 BLACK FRIDAY EVENT (NOVEMBER 27)

Toronto, ON – October 16, 2020 – GRAMMY®-nominated singer-songwriter, New York Times best-selling author, actress, poet, philanthropist, and mental health expert, Jewel, today released a previously-unreleased live version of her platinum-certified hit single, Who Will Save Your Soul, in advance of the much-anticipated reissue of her seminal debut album, Pieces of You. The live edition of this pivotal song was recorded at the Inner Change Coffee House in San Diego, CA – where Jewel was discovered and first earned her performance stripes. Who Will Save Your Soul also led to Jewel’s commercial breakthrough and was the first track released from the LP, which peaked at No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100, No. 1 on Billboard’s Adult Alternative Songs Chart, and No. 3 on the Billboard Mainstream Top 40. The track also scored a 1997 GRAMMY® nomination for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, with the official music video landing two 1996 MTV Video Music Award nominations for Best Female Video and Best New Artist in a Video. Stream or download Who Will Save Your Soul (Live) here.

For Record Store Day’s 2020 Black Friday Event, Jewel will also be unveiling a Live at the Inner Change LP. This previously unreleased live performance from 1994 offers fans a chance to hear Jewel nearly two years before she became an international sensation, in the place where the promising young artist honed her craft. The two-LP set features remastered audio from the legendary engineer, Bernie Grundman, and includes early versions of such favorites as Morning Song, I’m Sensitive, and Who Will Save Your Soul. Limited to 3,000 units, each individually-numbered album includes a replica of the original show flyer, designed by Jewel herself. For a full list of participating retailers, visit recordstoreday.com.

In the liner notes for the forthcoming Pieces of You 25th anniversary reissue, Inner Change owner Nancy Porter recalls, “This is where [Jewel] really built herself, developed her music, and I think everyone felt that. And the bigger the crowd got, the better she got… People would come in and just be in awe.”

The 25th anniversary package of Pieces of You will be released on Friday, November 20 via Craft Recordings and is available to pre-order here. Across four compact discs, the tracks collected on the limited-edition box set offer the opportunity to trace the evolution of certain key songs on the album, like Who Will Save Your Soul – in addition to the live version, fans can hear the solo demo version; the unedited master take from the album sessions, with the Stray Gators backing her; and the final album version. It’s a remarkable look at the development of a signature song and allows us insight into the vision that carried Jewel to the top and then supported a career for 25 years. Also available will be Deluxe 2-CD and 4-LP editions, and the 25th anniversary digital album will be available in time with the physical formats, offering the complete audio content from the 4-CD box set release. Full track listings for each format are below.

In celebration of the reissue, Jewel will also be holding a Pieces of You LIVE virtual concert on Friday, November 20 – the first time ever that the album will be played in its entirety from front to back. Tickets are available here. A VIP package for the show is available for purchase as well, which features a Q&A with Jewel and access to performances of songs not featured in the regular set. All VIP ticket proceeds from the concert will be donated to Jewel’s non-profit, the Inspiring Children Foundation and Voices of Hwǫłdzil (Resilience) - Adabi Healing Center, a community-based domestic violence and sexual assault crisis intervention and prevention program, providing advocacy, prevention, and a safe home network to victims and survivors of intimate partner violence in the Chinle Agency and surrounding areas of the Navajo Nation.

About Jewel:
Jewel went from a girl who grew up with no running water on an Alaskan homestead, to a homeless teenager in San Diego, to an award winning, multi-platinum recording artist who released one of the best-selling debuts of all time. Through her career Jewel has sold over 30 million albums worldwide and has earned 26 nominations for such awards as the GRAMMY®s, American Music Awards, MTV Awards, VH1 Awards, Billboard Music Awards, and Country Music Awards, winning eight times. Jewel has been featured on the cover of TIME Magazine, Rolling Stone, has performed on Saturday Night Live, at the Super Bowl and the NBA Finals, for the Pope and the President of the United States. She has experimented with several genres over her career with top hits in Folk, Pop, Club, Country, Standards, Children's and Holiday music.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Jewel has been leading the conversation around mental health, helping people tackle the silent symptoms of COVID-19—anxiety, depression, and isolation—to build community and connection for those who need it most. For more than 18 years, Jewel’s non-profit, the Inspiring Children Foundation has helped at-risk youth cope with the same silent symptoms we are now seeing in the pandemic. Growing up in Alaska where she was indoors for eight months out of the year, she knows about isolation. After moving out at 15 due to an abusive household and suffering from debilitating panic attacks, Jewel became homeless by the age of 18 and developed agoraphobia, the fear of leaving one’s home, a condition that experts worry some people will develop in the post-COVID-19 era. Mental health has been a significant passion of hers since being a homeless teenager with little access to resources. During that time, she began to develop a set of tools to rewire her brain and create new emotional patterns that were later validated by neuroscientist and associate professor in psychiatry at Brown University, Dr. Judson Brewer. After learning meditation and discovering and innovating her own mindfulness practices, Jewel was able to heal symptoms of her depression and go from surviving to thriving. These are the same tools she uses to help at-risk youth through her charity and the same tools she is offering online for free.
