DAYSORMAY UNVEIL THE SOUND OF JUST EXISTING

LISTEN TO ALBUM OUT TODAY

SHOW AT VICTORIA’S MARY WINSPEAR CENTRE ON OCTOBER 21 - TICKETS

TORONTO, ON – October 6, 2021 – Rising Vancouver, BC-based trio, daysormay, unveil their creatively cutting edge and introspective new album, Just Existing, today (TAG Music rest of world, Independent in Canada). As the meaning behind the phonetic spelling of the French word for which their name originates – désormais “from now on” – Aidan Andrews (Lead Vocals/Guitar/Keys/Ukulele), and brothers Nolan Bassett (Bass/Vocals/Trumpet) and Carson Bassett (Drums/Percussion) blaze their unique path, navigating various terrain with authentic disposition, always looking ahead to cultivate their sonic and visual presence in an ever-evolving musical landscape. Listen to Just Existing here.

If there is one track to celebrate the album, daysormay highlight 25 – a piece inspired by a tweet that was initially too funny to use - 25 is the telling of unrealistic expectations we put on ourselves manifested into hard hitting beats and effortless hooks.

By the time we fleshed it out, it was one of the last songs we wrote for this album,” the band says. “It’s probably one of the most literal and upfront songs we have ever written. It kind of feels like it’s something everyone’s thinking but not a lot of people talk about.”

As daysormay blend introspection, reflection, experimentation, creative DIY flair (especially on their dynamic visuals) and immense technicality in their work, Just Existing stems from the idea of capturing journal entries as small snapshots taken at different parts of a growth period. Presenting each tune as a sonic check-in of sorts, at every stage with elements that soundtrack various life moments – driving around with your friends, to solo listening with headphones, sunrise to sunset – it was inspired by the need to create something that felt authentic to daysormay, with hopes that it encourages listeners to commit to their life aspirations.

As odd as it sounds, the pandemic enabled the band to thrive. The bubble they had already formed by circumstance of living together gave them the opportunity many artists and bands didn’t have, which was to be able to continue creating and doing online shows and promo for the album.  Just Existing was recorded with producer/mixer, Steve Bays (Hot Hot Heat, Mounties, Left Field Messiah, Steve Aoki, Diplo, We Are The City). Select tracks were recorded at home and produced by the band, with some additional engineering by David Naude in their hometown of Vernon, BC and at Monarch Studios in Vancouver with Alex Penney (Jarrett Martineau, Jay Rock).

Editorial playlist pick up has been plentiful across the album launch, with love from the US, UK and Canada including the playlist cover of Amazon Music’s Breakthrough Alternative (US), and featured on Apple Music’s New In Rock (UK and Ireland), and Spotify’s RADAR Canada.  daysormay were recently nominated for Amazon Music Canada's Breakthrough Artist program, featured on the cover of Amazon Music Fresh Alternative & Finely Tuned in Canada, with a placement on Amazon Music's Brand-New Music Canada, Breakthrough Alternative in the US, Fresh Indie and on the Modern Folk station. The band has over 1M lifetime YouTube Views, with a cover feature at YouTube Music’s Your New Alternative. In April, daysormay performed on Bandsintown’s Twitch channel to over 15,000 viewers and engage with their fans via their own channel

Everything Is Changing kicked things off earlier this year with great intentions, as a song penned for the band’s future selvesEgo is a track that emerged from a songwriting exercise and explores the many aspects of self through the creative process. Ego follows The Trend, a track released in April highlighting their innovative songwriting and production process, with a video that captures the contrast between the noise of touring and the stillness of arriving home, offering a sense of reflection through the spaces in between – watch it here

Last month, the group released the video for the album’s title track, Just Existing. The video was directed by Titouan Fournier with DOP Christian Lai (known for their work in the band’s visuals for Ego and Everything Is Changing) and produced by Marginal Factory. As Just Existing continues to expand on the album narrative, the band channeled the attitude of videos from the 90s and early 2000s to create a present-day performance piece that was filled with easter eggs from the daysormay universe. Watch it here

On the album, daysormay reflect:

Just Existing has been a long time coming. Some of these songs have been around for 2+ years, while the others are brand new. It's been a crazy process of stitching it all together, we've never approached an album like this before, it feels new. I hope it can reach new listeners while also showing our current listeners a wider picture of who we are and what we've been doing over the past few years. We think of it as our debut. It feels like a beginning.

We recorded the vast majority of the new stuff with Canadian legend Steve Bays of Hot Hot Heat, Mounties, Fur Trade, and Left Field Messiah. He’s also produced for groups like Fitz and The Tantrums and collaborated with Diplo and Steve Aoki. We started with him way back in August of 2018 and it’s been a very important creative relationship for all of the singles and the upcoming album. We recorded sporadically with him throughout the past 3 years and it’s always been an eye opening experience and has given us the confidence to produce and record some of the songs on our own as well.”

The band will be performing in Sidney, BC at Mary Winspear Centre on October 21 – experience their incredible live performance and find all details and tickets here.
