BACKLINE & THRIV TO HOST “COME TOGETHER: COVID-19 CRISIS” SUPPORT GROUPS AMIDST MUSIC INDUSTRY CHAOS
PRODUCTION + CREW SUPPORT GROUP TO TAKE PLACE MONDAY, MARCH 16
ARTISTS + INDUSTRY SUPPORT GROUP TO TAKE PLACE TUESDAY, MARCH 17
TORONTO, ON – March 13, 2020 – With increasing anxiety in the music community due to COVID-19 (coronavirus), BacklineCo-Founder and Clinical Director, Zack Borer (LMFT), and THRIV (Tour Health Research Initiative) Co-Founder, Dr. Chayim Newman, will host online support groups next week in order to create a safe space for the industry to come together and access support and resources.
On Monday, March 16 at 6PM ET / 3PM PT, the first “Come Together: COVID-19 Crisis” support group will take place for all PRODUCTION + CREW professionals seeking support during this unprecedented time of uncertainty.
On Tuesday, March 17, at 6PM ET / 3PM PT, the second “Come Together: COVID-19 Crisis” support group will take place for ARTISTS + INDUSTRY (label, management, agents, promoters) to band together in this difficult time.
The support groups will aim to address the anxieties associated with COVID-19’s effects on the music industry, provide information and resources, and support each other during this difficult time. At the end of the meeting, Dr. Newman will lead a group meditation.
“In times of uncertainty, the natural human reaction is a spike in anxiety and panic,” explains Dr. Newman. “One thing that helps moderate that anxiety is community—the reminder that we’re not alone in it.”
“We have heard from countless individuals over the last few days [via Backline’s Case Management program] who are understandably scared and concerned about how coronavirus is affecting the music industry. We want you to know that we hear you and that you are not alone,” expresses Borer.
With touring, music festivals, and other mass gatherings representing the majority of the modern music industry, the cancellations and postponed events are causing huge concern for the professional community that relies heavily on the gig-to-gig lifestyle as their primary means of income.
“The live music industry, with many individuals who subsist financially from tour to tour, is one of the sectors hardest hit by the impact of this virus,” confirms Dr. Newman.
Borer continues, “The purpose of this online support group is to be together, to listen to each other, and to support each other through this challenging time.”
