ASTROCOLOR RELEASE NEW ALBUM HUE TODAY

TUNE IN TODAY TO WATCH AN INTERVIEW WITH RX MUSIC ON INSTAGRAM LIVE AT 12:00 PM PT/3:00 PM ET

Toronto, ON – May 8, 2020 – Astrocolor released their third studio album, Hue, today via Entertainment One. A highly anticipated release, Hue is the dynamic Victoria, BC-based electronica group’s first full-length since 2018’s Astrocolor III. Frontman/DJ, Neil James Cooke-Dallin, will be joining Master T from RX Music Live for an interview today at 12:00 pm PT/3:00 pm ET via Instagram Live to discuss the project. Tune in here to watch the interview, and listen to Hue here.

"With Hue, we tried to create an album that would cross multiple genres, emotions, and colours on the spectrum,” Frontman/DJ, Neil James Cooke-Dallin shares. Some tracks were made for the club, others for a quiet night at home with a glass of wine. We’re excited to send this music out into world, even though it’s a very different world than we imagined when we recorded it!”

To celebrate the release, Astrocolor are inviting fans to match Neil’s legendary high kick to include in their forthcoming video for new single, Gold. Audiences are invited to film their best high kicks during quarantine and submit a video by May 11. What makes a great high kick? Height, flexibility, number of kicks in sequence, balance, music syncopation, outfit choice, and general creativity are all metrics that need to be very seriously considered in order to compete with the best! All details can be found here.

Leading up to the full release of Hue, Astrocolor dropped three singles to give fans a taste of what they could look forward to. The latest single is Gold, which takes a Moby-inspired original vocal by Adrian Chalifour, and sets it within an Exit Planet Dust-era Chemical Brothers production. Laughter features the highly recognizable, timeless Stax Record sample of Wendy Rene’s 1964 song, After Laughter (Comes Tears) and received CBC support from Afterdark, The Strombo Show, q, and a feature on Spotify Outliers. Watch the video for Laughter, filmed on location at the Surf Motel, an iconic motel and attraction in Victoria, BC,  here. Renegade is a banging old school rave anthem, featuring a sample from widely-recognized track, Renegade Master, made famous in the '90s by Hip Hop artist, A.D.O.R.

Recorded at Burning Rainbow Studios in Victoria BC, Hue stands as a testament to a band of diverse talents. Production, mixing, and engineering duties are primarily handled by frontman/DJ, Neil James Cooke-Dallin. Saxophonist, Anand Greenwell, also boasts a studio background, adding his considerable muscle to the audio equation by working collaboratively with Mr. Cooke-Dallin. From dancefloor anthems to ambient instrumentals, Hue moves the listener across a landscape of emotions and colours, under the curated guidance of six old friends who happen to also be accomplished studio vets.

Based in western Canada, and formed in 2015, Astrocolor perform and record live electronic music, recalling The Chemical Brothers, Air, and St. Germain. The band plays on the edges of funky house, Balearic, breakbeat, and ambient, becoming a regular staple on national radio in Canada (CBC Afterdark, CBC q, and The Strombo Show).

Astrocolor has brought its celebratory live show to west coast music festivals including Burning Man, Rifflandia, Center of Gravity, Golden Sound, Song & Surf, Tall Tree, and Atmosphere Gathering, while also making appearances in Toronto, Seattle, Vancouver, Las Vegas, St. Louis, Chicago, and Costa Rica. Nominated for Electronic Artist of the Year at the Western Canadian Music Awards, the group’s catalogue of original material has over 3.5 million streams on major platforms, and a loyal following of regular listeners globally. Stay tuned for more Astrocolor news, and the video for Gold, in the coming weeks!
