ANDREW BIRD UNVEILS HARK!
NEW MUSIC OUT TODAY
ON LOMA VISTA RECORDINGS
Toronto, ON – November 8, 2019 – Today, internationally acclaimed multi-instrumentalist and songwriter, Andrew Bird, unveils HARK! via Loma Vista Recordings; a collection of holiday songs. Along brand new, original tracks, Alabaster, and Night’s Falling, the EP features a handful of beautifully realized holiday classics, including Oh Holy Night, White Christmas, Vince Guaraldi’s epic, Skating, and more. Listen/purchase here.
“I’ve never had the impulse to make a holiday record until last February,” says Bird. “I found myself enjoying the Vince Guaraldi ‘Peanuts’ records and thought I’d book a few days in the studio. It was an excuse to play some classic jazz with my favorite musicians. A lot of folks have a hard time with the holidays but they serve a purpose to us as a people- to create comfort, warmth and atmosphere within the darkness and the cold that can crush one’s spirit. There are a couple originals in here that address this idea of light and warmth in the darkness as well as some classics that have some nostalgic resonance with me. Hark! What sounds come flowing alabaster?”
The new music caps off a monumental year for Bird who was recently cast in the FX Limited Series, Fargo, in a role written expressly for him. His recent release, My Finest Work Yet, continues to receive critical acclaim from the likes of NPR who calls the album “impeccable throughout,” while the Los Angeles Times praises its “smoky soul music” and Pitchfork deems it “darkly funny”.
Bird has spent the better part of 2019 captivating audiences across the globe on tour, including a stop at this year’s Americanafest with special guest John C. Reilly. The duo’s performances were noted as some of the festival’s best by the Tennessean, American Songwriter and The Bluegrass Situation, which included a later released live version of The Carter Family’s, When The World’s On Fire, which they performed alongside Alan Hampton.
This winter, Bird will play a five-night sold-out residency at Chicago’s Fourth Presbyterian Church from December 9 through 13 as part of his eighth annual Gezelligheid concerts. A Dutch term that loosely translates to “cozy,” the Gezelligheid performances will feature Madison Cunningham.
Andrew Bird is an internationally acclaimed musician, songwriter and composer who has released fifteen records to date. Recording and touring extensively, Bird has performed around the world at festivals and renowned institutions including Carnegie Hall, Sydney Opera House and Walt Disney Concert Hall. A TED Talks presenter, a New Yorker Festival guest and an op-ed contributor for the New York Times, Bird will also debut on the cast of Fargo’s forthcoming installment, airing on FX in 2020. Bird’s newest full-length album, My Finest Work Yet, is out now on Loma Vista Recordings.
